Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced BHS Project Consultant to support major aviation infrastructure programs across the western United States. The role can be based in Austin, Denver, or Seattle.

This role serves as the owner's representative, providing technical leadership and project management oversight for the planning, design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of baggage handling system (BHS) projects at commercial airports.

The successful candidate will work closely with airport owners, airlines, baggage handling system vendors, designers, contractors and program management teams to help deliver complex capital improvement projects from concept through construction and operational turnover. This position requires a strong understanding of baggage handling system design, airport operations, project delivery methodologies and construction coordination within active airport environments.

This role is highly collaborative and requires excellent communication, technical judgment and organizational skills. The Project Manager will lead coordination efforts, monitor project performance, identify and resolve technical issues, and ensure projects are delivered in accordance with client objectives, contract requirements, safety standards and project schedules.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the client's representative throughout the planning, design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning phases of baggage handling system projects.
  • Manage day-to-day project activities while coordinating with airport stakeholders, consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturers and internal project teams.
  • Monitor project scope, schedule, budget and technical performance, identify risks and implement solutions to maintain project objectives.
  • Lead project coordination meetings, prepare meeting minutes, track action items and ensure timely resolution of outstanding issues.
  • Review engineering submittals, requests for information (RFIs), change requests, shop drawings and technical documentation for compliance with project requirements.
  • Conduct field observations and site inspections to verify construction quality, specification compliance and installation progress.
  • Coordinate functional testing, integrated system testing, commissioning activities and project closeout documentation.
  • Support development and implementation of project execution plans, logistics strategies and construction phasing within active airport environments.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers and multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges and maintain project delivery milestones.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly project reports summarizing schedule status, project risks, field activities and overall project performance.
  • Foster strong working relationships with clients through proactive communication and responsive project leadership.
Qualifications

Minimum requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or a related engineering discipline.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience managing or supporting aviation projects through design, construction and commissioning.
  • Experience serving as an owner's representative on major airport capital improvement programs.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams, contractors and client stakeholders.
  • Prior mechanical/electrical experience in the installation of Baggage handling systems
  • Ability to travel as required to support project delivery.
  • Experience delivering baggage handling system installation, modernization, commissioning or testing projects at Category X commercial airports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam and project management platforms such as Procore, Prolog, Aconex or Newforma.
  • Experience with Tote-based Carrier type system installations Is a plus
