As a Senior Engineer, youโ€™ll lead engineering design and authentication for Downtown Distribution systems, guide designers and engineers including Engineers in Training ( EIT) and Coop Students to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative utility solutions for Edmontonโ€™s core. Youโ€™ll also authenticate engineering designs under EPCORโ€™s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) and APEGA guidelines, manage technical documentation in ProjectWise, and advise on Engineering Design and Drafting Standards to ensure consistency in engineering practice and excellence across the business.

Youโ€™re also responsible for designing, estimating, interpreting, and validating complex engineering solutions while ensuring every construction, maintenance, and repair activity meets the required codes, standards, and work practices. Alongside your technical leadership, you are safeguarding health & safety, environmental, operational, system reliability, constructability considerations, and customer requirements while setting clear expectations with stakeholders affected by EPCORโ€™s work.

We welcome applications from internal and external candidates, and this position may be eligible for EPCORโ€™sย Where We Workย hybrid program, depending on business needs and upon meeting eligibility requirements.

What youโ€™d be responsible for

Reporting to the Manager, Downtown Engineering & Distribution Automation, youโ€™ll be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Authenticating engineering designs, standards, and specifications prepared by yourself or under your direct supervision.
  • Creating nonโ€‘standard design philosophies and unique engineering solutions for highly complex projects.
  • Providing technical guidance, troubleshooting, and engineering insight for civil and electrical utility infrastructure.

Project Delivery, Planning & Performance

  • Leading complex work assignments across multiple departments and setting project priorities, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Managing work package timelines, materials procurement, workflow coordination, and schedule compliance.
  • Establishing, monitoring, and reporting on performance metrics related to Downtown Engineering initiatives.
  • Identifying issues impacting quality and efficiency and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Engineering Best Practices, Governance & Documentation

  • Maintaining document management within ProjectWise and Distribution Project Records, ensuring accuracy, version control, and traceability.
  • Ensuring adherence to EPCORโ€™s Engineering Design and Drafting Standards and providing governance oversight to support consistent, compliant engineering practice.
  • Advancing utility best practices in design methods, materials, tools, and engineering techniques; championing required Management of Change (MOC) initiatives.
  • Ensuring all engineering, construction, maintenance, and repair activities comply with applicable codes, standards, EPCOR procedures, and industry regulations.
  • Reviewing and interpreting CSA, AEUC, and CEC requirements, delivering training and documentation updates to ensure ongoing compliance and knowledge transfer.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Directing the dayโ€‘toโ€‘day work of Designers, Engineers, EITs, and Coโ€‘op Studentsโ€”coaching, mentoring, identifying development needs, and ensuring consistent application of standards.
  • Delivering engineering training and leading knowledge transfer, especially in areas of technical deficiency or evolving practices.
  • Supporting stakeholderโ€‘level design reviews with emphasis on constructability, system compatibility, and operational practicality.
  • Building and sustaining collaborative relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders and maintaining alignment with EDTIโ€™s Capital Plan.
