Job description

Summary
ID Sculpture designs and manufactures climbing boulders, playground sculptures, and fine art sculptures for parks, schools, and public spaces across the country. We use a combination of technology and traditional methods to create unique interactive environments.
IDS provides secure, year-round indoor and outdoor work in a unique Design and fabrication environment with opportunity for travel and room for advancement. Ideal candidates possess a positive attitude, good work ethic and are eager to learn. Applicants must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, and endurance. Initial responsibilities are to provide general labor and assist artists, fabricators and shipping departments as needed.
Job Description: The Advanced Sculptor is primarily responsible for the execution of the quality, play-value and aesthetic goals set by IDS standards and the Design team within IDS. This individual collaborates closely with Concrete Managers and Artistic Director(s). The successful advanced Sculptor will also manage performance and inspire the concrete team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Proficiency in the sculpting of play value and route setting on interactive sculptures such that the end user is entertained. (advanced course setting experience for performance boulders is not a prerequisite)
  2. Possess a clear understanding of the materials, tools and tricks of the trade such that you could be tested as a resource for knowledge in carving techniques, molding materials and techniques, technical concrete questions, foam densities and types, rock type characteristics, catalog item names and characteristics etc.
  3. Be personally responsible for producing products that meets or exceeds the quality standards set forth by the Design team and Artistic Director(s)
  4. Follow sculpting and staining operations set forth by the Artistic Director(s)
  5. Be proficient with coating, sculpting and staining operations such that any job in the coating process is 2nd nature (nozzleman certification in not a prerequisite)
  6. Understand all the roles within sculptural concrete operations
  7. Build good working relationships with other coworkers and be a manageable team member
  8. Be accountable with the use of your time and resources at work
  9. Have knowledge of the requirements of occupational and playground Health and Safety regulations such that you are ready for certification testing in both Osha 10 and CPSI accreditations.
  1. Aid in the implementation of shop policies by cooperating with Production Manager and Floor Manager
  2. Coordinate and request information from Artistic director.
  3. Alert production manager to safety and shop performance issues
  4. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  5. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, this position requires hands on participation in any aspect of fabrication as required by managers.
  6. Be able to inspire and motivate and train small teams of creative talent in all IDS coating processes
  7. Be able to walk on uneven surfaces and lift 80lbs on a regular basis.
  8. Position based in Gunnison,CO. position may be hourly or salaried compensation, this position can be either full or part time employment.
  9. This position requires travel to jobsites, typically four times a year for 3 weeks each.
  10. Other related duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience
  • A minimum of 2-year's experience sculpting faux rock, trees, and animals for playgrounds, climbing walls and sculptural installations.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence as well as be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.
