Your Opportunity
The Project Management & Commercial Lead (PMCL) drives consistent, best-in-class project delivery by developing the Project Management (PM) community and ensuring effective implementation of Stantec's project management practices across their assigned PM Team.
Reporting to the Senior PMCL, the role provides coaching, strengthens commercial and project management capabilities, and monitors project performance, including commercial, quality, and risk metrics.
PMCLs support the BOU through proposal reviews, performance analysis, and guidance on project delivery, risk management, and commercial evaluation. With authority equivalent to the BCOL and BCPL, the PMCL also advises Project Management Leads (PMLs) to ensure consistent application of project delivery processes across the business center/BOU.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Health and Safety
  • Support PMs with implementing project-focused Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) practices.
  • Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies.
  • Set an example within the BOU for all matters related to HSSE values related to project delivery.

People Leadership
  • Collaborate with BC leadership and PMLs to assign projects and pursuit efforts to appropriately qualified project managers.
  • Assign PIR responsibilities to ensure adequate and appropriate PIR coverage for all projects within their assigned team.
  • Oversee assigned project management staff to achieve timely, effective, and efficient performance of project managers' responsibilities.
  • Conduct continuous training sessions for project managers and project controls staff to include Oracle dashboard, Integrated Project Solutions (IPS), preparing estimates to complete, change management and other critical PM activities.
  • Provide formal and informal feedback to respective supervisors on individual performance of project managers.

Project Management and Execution
  • Serve as the primary Project Independent Reviewer (PIR) for the projects executed by the PMCL's PM cadre.
  • When serving as a PIR, conduct regular project review meetings with PMs and project control team members to monitor project-level performance, budget, schedule, risk, and quality management.
  • Drive consistent project management practices and procedures in alignment with Stantec project management (PM) requirements and the BOU Project Management Practice Framework.
  • Conduct the project management review process for all PMs and projects within the PMCL's PM cadre in accordance with Stantec's project business rules guidance, including completion of estimate to complete, estimate at completion (EAC), revenue recognition, and approval of EACs in accordance with Stantec's Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program.
  • Lead and support efforts to integrate improved resource management (e.g., implement resource-loaded scheduling capabilities and practices if needed).
  • Recommend improvements to work processes, policies, and procedures at every opportunity to enhance project execution, control and monitoring at the project level, BOU level and at the enterprise level.
  • Coordinate with PMs to implement corrective actions for distressed projects, adapt and apply procedures to address problem situations, and engage BC or BL leaders when needed to support this effort.
  • Evaluate PM compliance with Stantec risk management practices and procedures and the PM Framework
  • Support PMs in project-setup activities such as Oracle setup (understanding and support for PPTs, PSF, etc.), intercompany agreements, and sub- contracts. Approve documentation as required by Stantec's PM Framework.
  • Pursue billable work and serve as a project manager for projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk in compliance with Stantec PM requirements including interfacing and communicating with clients.

Commercial Management and Pricing
  • Support BC leadership in the project-centric components of day-to-day operation of each business center or region, including project delivery performance, go/no-go decisions, pricing strategies, risk management, change management, forecasting and budgeting, and performance reporting.
  • Provide interpretation of monthly project performance figures to support the BCOLs in overall business unit management and the project managers to resolve project issues and improve project performance.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing proposal pricing to support business objectives and individual bid pricing strategies and support the account management and business development staff on key pursuits (e.g., evaluation of terms and conditions, commercial risk, and competitive advantage).
  • Support the BC leadership in review and approval of fit-for-purpose proposal and project scopes, schedules, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Participate in project risk review as needed (understand BOURC and ELRC risk triggers and the review requirements/process), including support for project managers during BOU Risk Committee Reviews and tracking go-condition completion.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or comparable technical, business, or professional degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from pursuit through closeout.
  • Ability to identify a project heading towards distress (e.g. deviations from baseline scope, schedule, or budget) and provide guidance on mitigation measures or corrective action to address the problem.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers.
  • Understanding of Stantec financial methodologies, procedures, and policies.
  • Knowledge of contracts and commercial agreements.

Pay Range:
• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas-$117,800.00 - $176,800.00 Annually
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$126,400.00 - $189,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
