Job description

K–12 EDUCATION

Lead the Daily Build in Michigan Schools

Superintendent – K–12 Education

Why This Role Exists + What You'll Lead

Clark's Lansing office is seeking a Superintendent to lead daily field execution on K–12 construction projects across Northern Michigan.

School construction is different. Buildings are occupied. Students are present. Summer schedules are compressed. Opening day deadlines are fixed. This role exists to ensure we deliver safe, high-quality spaces while coordinating dozens of moving parts inside active school environments.

You'll own what happens in the field every day - leading trade contractors, enforcing safety standards, and maintaining schedule discipline - while partnering with your Project Manager on overall project strategy.

Based in Alpena, serving districts across Northern Michigan - ideal candidates may live near Alpena, Atlanta, West Branch, and other surrounding areas.

What You'll Do

  • Plan and lead 2–4 week look-ahead execution
  • Coordinate daily trade sequencing and site logistics
  • Enforce safety, cleanliness, and occupied-building protocols
  • Verify schedule alignment with your Project Manager
  • Lead weekly trade coordination meetings
  • Maintain detailed daily reports and documentation
  • Drive quality closeout with minimal punch list
  • Represent Clark professionally with district staff and administrators

What Success Looks Like

In year one, you're confidently leading execution in occupied schools, coordinating trades around academic schedules, and delivering on opening-day commitments.

Over time, you're trusted with larger or more complex projects and mentoring Assistant Superintendents learning K–12 work.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years as a Superintendent in commercial construction
  • K–12 or occupied-building experience preferred
  • Strong short-term planning and trade coordination skills
  • Clear, firm leadership presence on site
  • Deep commitment to safety and quality
  • Proficiency with Phoenix, ProjectSight, Bluebeam
  • Reliable transportation and mobility on active sites

What Makes Clark Different

You'll have real field authority with experienced PMs and executives behind you. Our self-perform division gives you additional control when it matters most.

And you'll lead work that communities see and rely on every day.

Benefits + Culture

Clark offers profit sharing, generous PTO, 401(k) matching, and comprehensive health coverage. We invest in your professional growth and are a Certified Veteran Friendly Employer.

We are an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. Different perspectives make us stronger.

Ready to lead school projects that shape Michigan's future? Let's talk.
