Position Overview:

The Project & Capital Corporate Accountant supports both corporate accounting and project-based financial operations, with a primary focus on job costing, project financial management, and capital asset accounting. This role works closely with engineering, operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure accurate project tracking, financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and effective capital asset management. The position also contributes to core corporate accounting functions, including month-end close, financial reporting, audits, budgeting, and forecasting.

Location: Truro, Nova Scota

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Manage job costing and project financial activities, including budget tracking, forecasting, project billing, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, and internal stakeholders to monitor project performance, costs, and revenue throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee capital asset accounting processes, including asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Develop and enhance accounting processes, controls, procedures, and workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Create and maintain financial reports, dashboards, KPIs, and other tools that support project oversight and business decision-making.
  • Analyze project and capital data, identify trends and risks, and provide recommendations to management.
  • Prepare and coordinate U.S. personal property tax filings and ensure compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, audits, budgets, forecasts, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • CPA designation or active pursuit of a CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with SAGE 300 or Workday Finance is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new systems and technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing business needs.

  • This is a full-time salaried position requiring regular attendance and flexibility to work additional hours during peak periods or to meet operational requirements.
