Job description

Our client, a global consumer products company, is seeking a Government Affairs Manager to lead the development and execution of a comprehensive government affairs strategy aligned with corporate goals and priorities. This role requires a strategic, policy-savvy professional with a deep understanding of the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) industry and the evolving regulatory landscape impacting the sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Legislative & Regulatory Monitoring: Track and analyze political, legislative, and regulatory developments at the local, state, and federal levels; assess their impact on business operations and priorities.

Advocacy Strategy Development: Identify priority issues and lead the creation and implementation of proactive advocacy strategies that mitigate risk and create competitive advantage.

Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, policymakers, regulatory bodies, and industry associations to advance the companys public policy interests.

Internal Advisory: Advise senior leadership on public affairs matters, ensuring alignment between external policy trends and internal business strategy.

Project & Consultant Management: Lead cross-functional initiatives and manager external consultants involved in public affairs and government relations activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in political science, public policy, government relations, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in government affairs, lobbying, or public policy, within or serving the CPG industry
  • Strong grasp of legislative and regulatory processes and issues affecting the sector, including plastics, packaging, tariffs, ingredient restrictions, and EU regulations
  • Existing network within political institutions and familiarity with sustainability issues and the role of NGOs in the policy space
  • Proven ability to develop persuasive messaging and translate complex business objectives into politically actionable strategies
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated project management abilities and capacity to handle complex policy initiatives under pressure
  • Experience working in or with global organizations is strongly preferred
  • High integrity, proactive mindset, and results-oriented approach
