Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling

Location: New Albany, OH (Onsite)

Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

Pay Rate: $35-$42/hour

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling to support large-scale data center and low-voltage infrastructure projects. This individual will serve as a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle, providing field support, quality oversight, material coordination, and technical guidance to ensure successful project execution.

The ideal candidate will have experience with structured cabling systems, data center environments, fiber optic infrastructure, material procurement, and interpreting construction documentation such as cable schedules and Bills of Material (BOMs).

Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, cable schedules, and project documentation.
  • Create shop drawings, project submittals, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to field teams during installation activities.
  • Perform system verification, testing, inspections, and quality assurance reviews.
  • Conduct site assessments and field walks to evaluate project requirements and identify potential risks or opportunities.
  • Support project managers throughout installation, commissioning, and closeout phases.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders during project execution.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between field operations, project management, estimating teams, and customers.
  • Assist with material planning, procurement, and inventory management.
  • Develop recommendations related to constructability, project scope, and installation best practices.
  • Support training initiatives and provide guidance to field leaders and project teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience supporting structured cabling or low-voltage infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic cable construction, fiber types, and industry standards.
  • Experience working with cable schedules, drawings, specifications, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Knowledge of material procurement and equipment coordination.
  • Experience supporting data center projects or mission-critical environments.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Meta/Facebook data center projects.
  • Background in telecommunications, structured cabling, or data center construction.
  • Experience creating project submittals and shop drawings.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and punch list management.
  • Previous experience serving in a Field Engineer, Project Engineer, Structured Cabling Engineer, or similar role.
