Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated ITS Superintendent to lead Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) construction, maintenance, and operations activities on FDOT roadway projects throughout Florida. This leadership role is responsible for managing field personnel, subcontractors, project schedules, safety compliance, quality control, and coordination with FDOT representatives, engineers, and project stakeholders.

The ITS Superintendent will oversee the installation, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced transportation technologies while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with FDOT specifications and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise ITS field crews, technicians, subcontractors, and specialty vendors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee day-to-day ITS construction and maintenance activities on FDOT projects.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, FDOT standards, project specifications, and company policies.
  • Coordinate project schedules, manpower, equipment, materials, and logistics.
  • Lead installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ITS infrastructure, including:
    • IP Cameras and Digital Video Systems
    • Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
    • Vehicle Detection Systems and Wrong Way Vehicle Detection (WWVD)
    • Edge Computing Technologies
    • Emergency Vehicle Preemption Systems
    • Transit Signal Priority Systems
    • Adaptive Traffic Signal Control Systems
    • Ramp Metering Systems
    • Fiber Optic and Wireless Communication Networks
    • Ground-Mounted and Pole-Mounted ITS Cabinets
    • UPS Backup Power Systems
  • Review project plans, specifications, permits, and maintenance requirements.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with safety procedures.
  • Coordinate utility locates, underground infrastructure identification, and asset inventories.
  • Oversee system integration, testing, diagnostics, and final acceptance activities.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical, communications, networking, hardware, and software issues.
  • Maintain project documentation including daily reports, schedules, material tracking, and work progress updates.
  • Participate in project meetings with FDOT personnel, consultants, contractors, and company management.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of vehicles, bucket trucks, manlifts, test equipment, and specialized tools.
  • Mentor and develop technicians and foremen to enhance workforce capabilities and performance.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ITS, traffic signal, roadway electrical, transportation technology, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Previous supervisory, foreman, or superintendent experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of FDOT ITS systems, specifications, standards, and maintenance practices.
  • Experience with fiber optic communications, networking, electrical systems, and traffic technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and manufacturer-specific diagnostic platforms.
  • Valid Driverโ€™s License required.
  • CDL preferred; company-sponsored CDL program available for qualified candidates.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to inspect and safely operate aerial equipment, bucket trucks, and manlifts.
  • OSHA certification and MOT/TTC certifications are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • FDOT ITS construction or maintenance experience.
