Job description

General Summary

 This position is responsible for working with test engineers to test fiber optic products.

Duties & Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position will be to test fiber optic products per established work instructions to evaluate product performance and collect data that provides evidence of conformance to product requirements. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Project
    • Conduct optical, mechanical, and environmental tests of fiber optic products to assess compliance to product requirements.
    • Collect, record, analyze and report test data.
    • Follow testing schedule and provide status in the lab request system.
    • Utilize Microsoft Excel and Word to analyze and report data.
    • Assist in performing failure analysis.
    • Utilize custom computer software used with test equipment to acquire data.
    • Review and approval of test plans and reports if required.
    • Utilize test request system to update test status.
    • Communicate issues in a timely manner to the test engineer.
  • Department
    • Competency/experience with corporate, business unit and lab quality management system documentation.
    • Competency/experience with relevant industry standards for fiber optic products
    • Competency/experience with the range of lab test equipment.
    • Competency/experience with fiber optic products and technical principals.
    • Competency/experience with internal and external customer expectations.
    • Follow department safety and efficiency programs.
    • Participate in test equipment maintenance and validations if required.
    • Complete training on lab processes, procedures and test methods as required.
    • Position has growth potential with four additional technician titles each with increasing responsibilities.
    • Collaboration with current lab staff which includes other test engineers and technicians in team oriented environment.

Familiarity with a range of fiber optic products or equivalent.

Skills Required

  • Solid communication skills including excellent writing skills and fluency in English.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Skilled at planning and ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team environment.
  • May be required to do physical lifting up to 40 pounds.

Strongly Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with testing of fiber optic products per international and domestic industry standards.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to analyze data using formulas and graphs.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment.

Our salary ranges consider a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to benchmarking by independent third-party consultants, skill sets, years of experience, training, education, geography, and other business needs. Depending on experience, the range can be higher for candidates with exceptional experience and a demonstrated history of successful performance. The expected salary range for this position is $57,000 - $64,000 based on hired level and experience. The candidate will be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, life and accidental death insurance, a 401(k) plan, and participation in the Company’s Incentive Plan. Candidates starting with the Company will be eligible for eleven paid holidays in a full calendar year, two weeks of paid vacation (prorated based on start date), as well as other leave options.
