Job description

The Senior Principal Projects Controls Manager role is based in the Pharma Technical Operations Technology (PTT) organization, which ensures Pharma Technical Operations stays at the forefront of technology in our current and future facilities. The position focuses on leading all aspects of project controls for large and complex facility/equipment improvement projects across our U.S. manufacturing network and potentially on international sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the project controls team, motivating them through strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Provide internal leadership with project guidance, performance benchmarking, and predictive data for effective project reporting and executive-level presentations.
  • Manage external partners, ensuring optimal value for Genentech in cost estimation, risk management, schedule management, and overall delivery.
  • Drive continual process and technology/system improvements to enhance execution performance, applying modern methodologies such as Lean, BIM, Target Value Delivery (TVD), and the Last Planner System (LPS).
  • Plan proactively, demonstrate behaviors aligned with the company culture, and positively influence others to achieve results in the best interest of the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field (master’s degree or quantity surveying degree preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in construction industry project controls, consultancy, or leading project controls for biotech/pharma projects.
  • Demonstrable large project controls management experience.
  • Strong expertise in current best practices for project controls, including cost, schedule, scope, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of lean construction techniques (e.g., TVD, LPS) and proficiency in SAP financial/accounting systems.
  • Experience with project control systems and software including Primavera P6, enterprise-wide project management systems, Tableau, PowerBI, and advanced Google Suite.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork focus with executive-level communication skills; staff management and consultant management experience required.
  • PMP certification and/or MRICS status is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits

The expected salary range for this position, based in Holly Springs, NC, is $136,200 to $253,000, depending on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance. The position also qualifies for the benefits detailed during the application process.

Location: Holly Springs, NC (at least 30% travel required). This is a 100% full‑time role; relocation benefits are not available for this posting.
