Buhler Inc. seeks a full-time Project Engineer – Automation based in Plymouth, MN. The Project Engineer – Automation delivers electrical and automation engineering services by designing, programming, testing, and commissioning PLC/PCS control software for industrial systems in the food industry, such as grain milling, animal feed, and consumer foods, and ensures projects meet customer expectations, comply with internal directives and safety standards, and are timely completed.

Specific duties include:
  • 1) Design, develop, and simulate PLC and PCS (Plant Control System) software according to project scope for customers in the food industry through the application of knowledge in computer science, automation engineering, and mathematical analysis during the development process.
  • 2) Manage the technical scope of assigned work to achieve the project goals and objectives.
  • 3) Create system specifications and project documentation according to company standards and compliance requirements.
  • 4) Integrate automation systems into manufacturing environments by collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.
  • 5) Lead testing and commissioning activities, including Customer Acceptance Tests (CAT); on-site commissioning, support, and customer training; and the development of digital service solutions.
  • 6) Provide remote and on-site troubleshooting to ensure reliable operation of automation systems after commissioning.
  • 7) Conduct on-site training for customers (system operation, troubleshooting).
  • 8) Capture and apply all learned lessons to increase execution performance and quality.
  • 9) Develop application solutions using the following technologies: WinCos Scada R1, WinCos Scada R2, Mercury Scada, VisiWin .NET Machine Control, VisiWin V7 Machine Control, GCPro, IOSimuli V2, WinTrend V2, Device2L MEAG configuration, Rockwell Automation Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, Schneider Electric Unity Pro, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Visual C#, VMWare, JavaScript. This position requires international and domestic travel up to 50% of the time.
These are the skills you'll need

This position requires two (2) years of experience with PLC programming in a mechatronics environment. Experience must include two (2) years of experience, which may be concurrent, in all of the following:

  • 1) Designing, developing, and simulating PLC and PCS (Plant Control System) software according to project scope for customers in the food industry through the application of knowledge in computer science, automation engineering, and mathematical analysis during the development process.
  • 2) Creating system specifications and project documentation according to company standards and compliance requirements.
  • 3) Integrating automation systems into manufacturing environments by collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.
  • 4) Leading testing and commissioning activities, including Customer Acceptance Tests (CAT); on-site commissioning, support, and customer training; and the development of digital service solutions.
