Job description

Project Manager - Pipeline Position Summary
The Project Manager - Pipeline is responsible for planning, executing, and successfully delivering pipeline construction and replacement projects from contract award through final closeout. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable regulations, contract requirements, and quality standards. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of accountability for project performance, stakeholder communication, and client satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of pipeline construction projects, including transmission, midstream, and distribution pipeline installations and replacements.
  • Lead project planning activities, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, procurement coordination, and risk management.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, work plans, and resource forecasts while monitoring performance and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between clients, project stakeholders, field operations, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and resources to ensure efficient execution of project objectives.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, environmental permits, and project specifications.
  • Review and approve production reports, progress documentation, quantities installed, and project records.
  • Manage contract administration activities, including RFIs, change orders, claims documentation, and project correspondence.
  • Collaborate with estimating, procurement, permitting, and right-of-way teams to support project execution.
  • Lead project meetings, including pre-construction conferences, progress meetings, safety meetings, and closeout reviews.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including job cost tracking, forecasting, earned value analysis, and variance reporting.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impacts on schedule, budget, quality, and safety.
  • Promote and support a strong safety culture through regular site visits, safety reviews, investigations, and corrective action planning.
  • Provide regular project status updates to clients and senior leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of gas utility and pipeline construction, including mains, services, transmission pipelines, and underground infrastructure.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent written communication skills for preparation of reports, schedules, change orders, project correspondence, and documentation.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, field personnel, subcontractors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict-resolution skills related to project scope, schedule, and budget matters.
  • Ability to identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency with project management and scheduling software, including Microsoft Project or similar tools, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work from project sites as required.
Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervises project personnel and provides direction to field supervisors, foremen, and project support staff.
  • Coordinates and oversees subcontractors, vendors, and craft labor within the project environment.
  • Establishes project objectives, allocates resources, monitors performance, and supports personnel development.

Education

Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive project management experience within pipeline, utility, energy, or infrastructure construction.

  • Experience coordinating field operations, subcontractors, contract administration, scheduling, and project financial management.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to read reports, contracts, engineering drawings, specifications, and electronic documents.
  • Ability to hear and communicate effectively in office and active construction environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and navigate active construction sites and uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and perform site inspections.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to regularly use computers, tablets, mobile devices, and other business equipment.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed in both office and field construction environments.
  • Frequent travel to project locations is required.
  • Extended on-site assignments may be necessary during critical construction phases.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, construction equipment, and industrial work environments should be expected.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, or holidays when project demands require.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
  • Successful completion of applicable pre-employment screenings, background checks, and workplace compliance requirements may be required.
  • Valid work authorization and an acceptable driving record are required.
