Construction Project Accountant



Title - Project Accountant in Construction

Company - Fairway Construction, Inc.

Location - Atlanta, GA (Buckhead area)

Schedule - 3 days in office hybrid


Fairway Construction Co., Inc. (FWC). FWC was founded in 1984 to provide construction services for JES Holdings, LLC. Throughout the years, Fairway Construction’s expertise has grown from building affordable multi-family housing communities to include the construction of skilled nursing care centers, market-rate apartment communities, residential lofts, the rehabilitation of historic properties and conventional senior memory care facilities. Due to our reputation for consistently completing quality developments on time and within budget, FWC has expanded to add third-party construction developments and provides project management and consulting services for numerous developers. FWC offers a wide range of services to assist our clients from pre-construction through completion.

Project Accountants are a key member of each project team providing general accounting support and timely accurate project financials. This position is responsible for reviewing invoices, reviewing budgets, preparing financial reports, creating monthly pay applications, and ensuring project costs are appropriately reflected in project budgets.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for all construction project accounting functions.
  • Maintain project related records and change orders and be proactive on any deficiencies.
  • Review, enter, and approve supplier invoices related to a project.
  • Understand, review, and approve overhead charges to be applied to a project.
  • Review account totals related to project assets and expenses.
  • Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.
  • Create or approve all project-related billings to customers.
  • Confer with Ops team regarding unpaid contract billings.
  • Confer with management on any opportunities for additional billings.
  • Respond to requests for more details from customers.
  • Close out project accounts upon project completion.
  • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required.
  • Assess and improve internal processes and controls as appropriate.
  • Other assignments as directed by management.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledgeable about project cost accounting
  • Knowledgeable about construction pay applications
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) Sage Intacct, and Procore/Procore Pay
  • Analytical ability to compile relevant data into useful information
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to work in a team environment
  • Customer service skills to service needs of field personnel and management
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Organizational skills and problem-solving abilities


EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years’ work experience in an accounting environment and two years of accounting experience in the construction industry.
