Primary Position Objectives

Assists Director of Engineering in conceptual designs for estimating. Develops designs and manages improvements for new and or existing products during the building and testing phases.  Works with internal, external contacts and customers regarding ideas, drawings, and products as well as in the development of designs, to resolve problems and to provide prototypes.

Oversight

  • Coordinates/Directs in all phases of production implementation to production release.
  • Assists in reviews quotes for tooling costs.
  • Designs/Directs Fourslide tools and Progressive dies necessary to produce parts to customer specifications. *This experience is a must*
  • Designs/Directs the construction of all ancillary tooling i.e. gauges, CNC fixtures, inspect and true fixtures etc. to verify part to blueprint
  • Assist in R&D projects such as development of commercial products.
  • Frequently lends design support to toolmakers, customers and CSS tooling vendors during the design phases and ultimate production of a proposed item.
  • Maintains, challenges, and directs established engineering procedures.
  • Works with Process Engineers for the purpose of scheduling design and fabrication to meet customers’ request.
  • Works as a SME with all Design processes and capabilities.
  • Add depth to overall design, documentation and engineering talents of the department.
  • Set-up and maintain computer and hard copy files of all documents and correspondence for each project.
  • Acts as liaison between customers and tool development teams.
  • Assists in estimating cost and lead-time for tooling, jigs, and fixtures required producing the job.
  • Assists Director of Engineering on any notes and exception(s) applicable to an RFQ.
  • Meets with customers in conjunction with sales support on tooling issues
  • Integral part of the research and development team, reporting to the Director of Engineering.

  • Maintains adherence to company policies, environmental and safety standards, and good housekeeping standards.
  • May be required to assist or otherwise instruct other personnel.
  • Performs other duties as may be required.

Education

Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or demonstrated of equivalent skills.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.
  • CAD understanding.

  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company formal training.
  • Formal or job-related training in manufacturing operations and estimating procedures.
