What does a project engineer tooling do?

A Project Engineer Tooling is responsible for designing, developing, and managing the tools, molds, and fixtures required for manufacturing processes. They coordinate projects from conception through production, ensuring tooling meets quality, cost, and timeline requirements. Their duties often include collaborating with design teams, suppliers, and production staff to optimize tool performance and address technical challenges. Project Engineer Tooling professionals play a key role in ensuring efficient and reliable manufacturing operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project engineer tooling?

To thrive as a Project Engineer Tooling, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering or a related field, experience in tooling design, and knowledge of manufacturing processes. Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD), project management tools, and industry-specific standards or certifications (like Six Sigma or PMP) is typically required. Job description

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with a broad skillset and a willingness to expand into new areas. This role will support our Semiconductor Reconditioning shop which cleans, repairs and tests electro-mechanical assemblies for semiconductor tooling. The ideal candidate brings strong electrical engineering fundamentals, testing software development, hands-on implementation experience, and a willingness to work with a cross-functional team and expand their skillset into areas typically not seen by electrical engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues on valves, controllers, PCBs and other components from semiconductor tooling.
  • Update and maintain internally developed software for automated test systems.
  • Document product and test system electrical schematics and cable pin-outs.
  • Evaluate and help quote potential new products.
  • Develop and document testing protocols and write software for automated testing systems when needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency with electrical schematic tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Eplan, Visio or similar) including drawing standards and revision control.
  • Experience with electrical fault diagnosis and repair, including surface mount and through hole component soldering.
  • Working knowledge of industrial networks and interfaces (e.g., DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, IO-Link, serial as applicable) and basic instrumentation.
  • Experience with Python or C programming.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear technical communication.

Preferred Skills:
  • Hands-on experience with other manufacturing techniques outside of electrical systems. Basic hand tools, Manual lathe/mill, and chemical handling systems are preferrable. If a candidate does not have these skills, they must be open to learning them given the appropriate training.
  • Experience in diagnosing board-level component failures and replacing those components.
  • Basic familiarity with LabView software.
  • Experience in Semiconductor tooling and processes.
  • Experience in making hardware test solutions that are intuitive enough for technicians to use.

Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects
  • Collaborative work environment with opportunities to branch out and grow within NxEdge/EnPro.
