Job description

The Construction Director for the Self-Perform Substation construction group is responsible for the managerial leadership and direction of Construction/Design-Build strategic business initiatives, client strategy and development and large team project management. The Construction Director will lead the department in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

  • Responsible for determining pricing, cost tracking, preliminary execution planning, and cost and definition development for projects, including developing and implementing a system for reporting back actual pricing and labor productivities on active projects to influence ongoing estimate efforts.
  • Direct involvement in commercial negotiations across major and strategic pursuits.
  • Direct the coordination between Business Line Managers and Director of US Sales.
  • Provide leadership between CDB Pre-Construction Execution, Burns & McDonnell Constructors, AZCO, and subcontractors to safely reduce installation rates, advance efficient execution, and continuously improve competitive offerings for business lines.
  • Provide leadership to the pursuits team; direct early project development and pursuit efforts ensuring effective utilization of staff.
  • Direct initiatives for Objectives and Key Results for business strategic goals across the Global Practice, including regional offices.
  • Provide leadership, development and guidance to the regional offices for EPC and major project pursuits.
  • Review, implement, and achieve business plans across the Global Practice, including regional offices.
  • Provide direction on business development efforts in the identification and vetting of prospective projects and clients.
  • Liaise between regional offices and applicable corporate initiatives.
  • Promote and manage internal relationships to establish guidelines and executable plans for conducting business.
  • Direct preparation and implementation of pursuit development plans to support and develop identified strategies for furthering the development of the business.
  • Provide senior-level technical expertise, input, and evaluation on projects across the Global Practice.
  • Provide industry expertise with respect to the competition.
  • Achieve established targets and standards to meet financial performance.
  • Present monthly financial information to leadership including sales and revenue forecasts.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program, and 13 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the construction industry and/or project management required.
  • Expert experience in client and business development.
  • Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination and communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
