Job description

Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.  


Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides knowledge of numerical control, machining, and programming inspection machine tools.
  • Performs a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis of NC programs to ensure validation and compliance to customer and regulatory requirements and specifications.
  • Analyze blueprints, engineering models, and electronic controls to support NC programming.
  • Work with NC programmers to optimize or modify programs as required.
  • Program CMM’s, portable inspection devices and provide verification of NC programs using software and apps.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Validates fabrication, assembly, or installation manufacturing plans by coordinating with suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
  • Knowledge to develop tooling, interchangeability, replacement, and functional test plans.
  • Using the established manufacturing process flow, defines sequences of events, develops text and graphics work instructions, manufacturing datasets, tooling requirements, and manufacturing bills of material.
  • Communicates with cross-functional teams to influence and clarify design concepts.
  • Coordinates change incorporation, optimizes processes, and addresses producibility issues as well as production & post-production problems.
  • Has the ability to demonstrate configuration control of the hardware, within the manufacturing build plan

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Ability to apply process knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Composite non-metallic, metallic machining, sheet metal, systems, structures and inspection.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in numerical control (NC) programming of inspection devices and/or experience in quality control, quality assurance, or familiarization with basic quality principles in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to program multiple inspection machine tools including CMM’s, portable measuring devices, articulation arms and verify programs using software or apps.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with inspection machine tools and NC Programming software.
  • Frequent interaction with internal personnel in the manufacturing environment and occasionally with inter-organizational personnel and external customers.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially with Excel
  • Strong knowledge of SAP
  • CATIA / ENOVIA / Metrologic / Vericut/ Polyworks
  • Understanding of the master scheduling requirements
  • Ability to take a project from start to finish
  • Willingness to work cross-functionally
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred but not required, subject to experience in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering or other related course of study a plus but not required.
