What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Project Architect Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Architect Intern, you need a solid foundation in architectural design principles, drafting, and knowledge of building codes, typically supported by progress toward an accredited architecture degree. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and other architectural design software, as well as experience producing construction documents, is important. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with design teams and stakeholders. These skills and qualities are crucial for supporting senior architects, learning industry standards, and contributing to successful project outcomes.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a Project Architect Intern expect to handle on a typical day?

As a Project Architect Intern, you'll often assist with drafting design documents, researching materials, and preparing presentations for client meetings. You may collaborate closely with senior architects and engineers to develop construction drawings, attend project meetings, and conduct site visits to observe progress. Interns are typically encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas, and take on progressively more complex tasks as they gain confidence, which helps build both technical and professional skills within a supportive team environment.

What does a Project Architect Intern do?

A Project Architect Intern assists licensed architects in designing and planning construction projects, such as buildings and interior spaces. Their responsibilities often include creating drawings and models, researching building codes, preparing presentation materials, and coordinating with consultants or clients under supervision. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience, allowing interns to develop technical and design skills while learning about the architectural process. It is typically a stepping stone toward becoming a licensed architect.

What is the difference between Project Architect Intern vs Design Intern?

AspectProject Architect InternDesign Intern
Required CredentialsEnrolled in or recent graduate of architecture program, some internships may require licensing or certificationEnrolled in or recent graduate of design, architecture, or related program; less emphasis on licensing
Work EnvironmentAssists in project development, drafting, and documentation under supervision, often in architecture firmsFocuses on conceptual design, visualizations, and creative tasks, often in design studios or firms
Employer & Industry UsageCommonly used in architecture firms for training future licensed architectsUsed across design and architecture firms for gaining practical experience in creative design

Position Requirements

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, develop, and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using vector databases, embedding models, and LLM APIs.

Prototype and build agentic AI workflows that autonomously plan, reason, and execute multi-step tasks within our procurement platform.

Evaluate and benchmark LLMs and AI models for accuracy, latency, cost, and relevance across different procurement use cases.

Develop and refine prompt engineering strategies to improve the quality and reliability of LLM-generated outputs.

Build data ingestion and preprocessing pipelines to prepare enterprise documents for embedding and retrieval.

Research emerging AI techniques (e.g., function calling, multi-agent orchestration, fine-tuning) and present findings to the team.

Contribute to our library of reusable AI components, tools, and integration patterns.

Participate in demos and feedback sessions to validate AI features with internal stakeholders and customers.

Document AI experiments, model performance metrics, and architectural decisions to build our team's knowledge base.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, or a related field.

Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with AI/ML libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, or scikit-learn.

Exposure to LLM frameworks and tools (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI API, or similar) is a plus.

Foundational understanding of machine learning concepts, NLP, and deep learning architectures.

Familiarity with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, ChromaDB, FAISS) and embedding techniques is a plus.

Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills with a genuine curiosity about emerging AI technologies.

Relevant coursework or personal projects in AI, machine learning, or NLP are highly valued.

SUCCESS IN THIS POSITION

Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and a passion for applying AI to real-world procurement challenges

Collaborates effectively with engineers, data scientists, and product managers to deliver AI-powered solutions

Embraces rapid prototyping and iterative experimentation-comfortable with ambiguity and evolving AI technologies

Balances research exploration with a bias toward shipping-turning AI experiments into production-ready features

Takes initiative in learning new AI tools, techniques, and frameworks with minimal direction

Brings fresh ideas on how AI can improve our products, processes, and customer outcomes

Finds genuine excitement in pushing the boundaries of what AI can do for enterprise procurement
