Progressive Cavity Pumps information

What is the difference between Progressive Cavity Pumps vs Pump Technicians?

AspectProgressive Cavity PumpsPump Technicians
CredentialsTechnical training, certifications in pump maintenanceTechnical certifications, training in pump systems
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, industrial sitesField service, repair shops, industrial facilities
Industry UsageDesign, manufacturing, and application of pumpsMaintenance, repair, troubleshooting of pumps

Progressive Cavity Pumps are specialized equipment used in fluid transfer, requiring technical knowledge for operation and maintenance. Pump Technicians focus on repairing and maintaining pumps, including progressive cavity types. While both roles require technical skills, the pumps are the equipment they work on, making their functions complementary rather than interchangeable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Progressive Cavity Pump Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Progressive Cavity Pump Technician, you need a strong background in mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and an understanding of fluid dynamics, typically supported by technical training or a relevant trade certification. Familiarity with pump diagnostic tools, vibration analysis equipment, and maintenance management systems is commonly required. Attention to detail, effective problem-solving, and clear communication are essential soft skills for ensuring reliable equipment operation and safety. These skills are crucial for minimizing downtime, optimizing pump performance, and maintaining safe and efficient industrial processes.

What are some common challenges faced by technicians working with progressive cavity pumps, and how can they be addressed?

Technicians working with progressive cavity pumps often encounter challenges such as excessive wear of the rotor and stator, clogging due to abrasive or viscous materials, and maintaining a proper seal to prevent leaks. These issues can be addressed through regular maintenance, choosing appropriate materials for pump components based on the application, and closely monitoring operational parameters. Collaboration with engineers and maintenance teams is essential to troubleshoot problems quickly and optimize pump performance, ensuring minimal downtime and extended equipment life.

What are progressive cavity pumps?

Progressive cavity pumps are a type of positive displacement pump that move fluids through a sequence of small, fixed-shape cavities as a rotor turns within a stator. These pumps are especially effective for handling viscous, abrasive, or shear-sensitive materials and are commonly used in industries such as wastewater, oil and gas, and food processing. Their design allows for steady, pulse-free flow and precise dosing, making them ideal for applications requiring consistent fluid transfer.

Job description

Description:

This role is responsible for designing custom equipment packages and fluid process systems for industrial and municipal customers. Projects vary significantly in size and complexity. One day, you may be designing a simple equipment base, single-pump package, or blower skid. The next, you could be designing a large integrated system with multiple pumps, process piping, instrumentation, controls, filtration equipment, tanks, or diesel drives.

The work is highly custom and rarely repetitive, making it an excellent fit for someone who enjoys solving practical mechanical design challenges and seeing their designs come to life on the fabrication floor. You'll work closely with Sales Engineers, Applications Engineers, welders/fabricators, machinists, and our electrical controls division (ESSCO) to transform customer requirements into buildable equipment packages.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Design custom pump packages and fluid process systems using SolidWorks
  • Create fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of material
  • Develop equipment layouts including pumps, motors, piping, valves, instrumentation, controls, and related components
  • Ensure designs are practical to fabricate, assemble, transport, install, and service
  • Coordinate closely with Applications Engineers to translate customer requirements into buildable systems
  • Support fabrication, welding, assembly, and controls teams throughout the build process
  • Incorporate customer specifications, manufacturer requirements, and internal design standards into package designs
  • Manage drawing revisions and project documentation
  • Assist with troubleshooting and design modifications during fabrication and assembly

Typical Projects Include

  • Pump bases, carts, and equipment supports
  • Single-pump and multi-pump skid packages
  • Duplex, triplex, and quadplex pumping systems
  • Pump packages with integrated piping, valves, instrumentation, and controls
  • Diesel-engine-driven pump systems
  • Wastewater lift stations and portable pumping systems
  • Filtration, metering, and process dosing systems
  • Blower, vacuum pump, gear pump, and progressive cavity pump packages
  • Custom fabricated structures, guards, and equipment supports
  • Municipal and industrial process equipment systems

Why Join Tencarva

  • Annual Incentive Program
  • Profit Sharing via 401(k)
  • Earn up to 120 hours (3 weeks) of PTO per year (prorated based on your start date) - plus 10 paid holidays
  • Stable, growing company with long-term customer relationships and no history of layoffs
  • Highly custom, engaging work - not repetitive production design
  • Opportunity to see your designs move from concept to fabrication to final assembly
  • Collaborative environment - direct interaction with Sales Engineers, Applications Engineers, and technical teams (Fabricators/Welders, Machinists, and Electrical Controls Techs)
  • Real-world industrial design environment where practical problem-solving matters

Insurance benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, and life.
