Job description

Primary Purpose

To experience Mountaire's culture first-hand and provide additional exposure of Mountaire's family-oriented work environment. The intern will support procurement & strategic sourcing initiatives focused on sustainable packaging solutions, cost optimization, and supply chain efficiency. Working closely with Procurement, Packaging, Operations, and Supply Chain teams, the intern will analyze packaging materials, supplier data, market trends, and sustainability requirements to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Depending on the student's area of study, the project may include packaging optimization, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) impact assessments, cost forecasting, supplier performance analysis, or data analytics that support strategic sourcing decisions. 

Project Highlights

  • Analyze packaging materials, supplier data, and procurement trends to identify opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate sustainable packaging initiatives, including environmental impact and regulatory considerations such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
  • Develop data-driven forecasts and reports to support procurement planning and decision-making.
  • Assess supplier, material, or process performance to identify opportunities for operational efficiency and value creation.
  • Present findings and recommendations to Procurement leadership to support future sourcing and sustainability initiatives.   

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university (Pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Data Analytics, Packaging Design, Engineering, or a related field is preferred).
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Must pass the Mountaire Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced), Power BI, Tableau, or similar data visualization and analytics tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Interest in packaging design, packaging sustainability, and cost optimization within a manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present data-driven insights to cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented team player with a commitment to continuous improvement.   

Internship Program Requirements

  • Complete assigned project identified by department mentor
  • Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities 
  • All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 2 - 6, 2027)
  • All interns are required to complete a 10-minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 2-6. 
  • All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10)
  • Anticipated weekly schedule for this internship is M-F, 7:30/8:00 am - 4:30/5:00 pm
