Description
Concord Hospitality is seeking a hands-on and solutions-focused Director of Engineering to lead all property maintenance and engineering operations. As a key member of the Executive Committee, the Director of Engineering will oversee all aspects of facility management, including building infrastructure, life safety systems, mechanical and electrical equipment, energy management, grounds, and capital asset preservation. This leader will work closely with ownership, restaurant partners, contractors, vendors, and hotel leadership to ensure the property is maintained to the highest standards and delivers an exceptional experience for guests and team members alike.
A significant early focus of this role will be the successful execution of pre-opening activities. The ideal candidate will support the completion of punch list items, manage vendor and contractor relationships, oversee system testing and commissioning, establish department processes and standards, develop preventative maintenance programs, recruit and train the engineering team, and ensure the hotel is fully operational before welcoming its first guests.
The successful candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in an opening environment, possesses a strong technical background, and takes pride in maintaining facilities at an exceptional level. They will be expected to create a best-in-class Engineering operation that safeguards the hotel's physical assets, maximizes equipment longevity, supports profitability, and ensures regulatory compliance. Working alongside the General Manager and executive leadership team, the Director of Engineering will help bring The Beckworth's vision to life while fostering a workplace culture that embodies the spirit of "We Are Concord."

Key Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Lead all pre-opening engineering activities, including building commissioning, operational readiness, vendor coordination, warranty management, inspections, and completion of all punch list items to ensure a successful hotel opening.
  • Build and develop the Engineering department from the ground up, including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and mentoring team members while establishing a culture of accountability, safety, and service excellence.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of hotel engineering, including maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and management of all building systems to ensure maximum reliability and guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain and continually enhance preventative maintenance programs to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of all HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, mechanical, and building automation systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards, local building codes, Hilton brand requirements, and Concord Hospitality operational standards.
  • Conduct regular property inspections, equipment assessments, and safety walkthroughs to proactively identify concerns, mitigate risks, and preserve the physical condition of the hotel's assets.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor relationships, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while maximizing warranty protection and asset performance.
  • Monitor and manage departmental budgets, inventory, purchasing, contracts, and capital expenditures to control costs, improve efficiency, and support long-term asset preservation.
  • Lead the hotel's emergency preparedness, life safety, risk management, and business continuity initiatives while serving as a key leader during emergency response situations.
  • Champion sustainability and energy management initiatives that improve operational efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support Concord Hospitality's stewardship objectives.
  • Partner closely with the General Manager, Concord Hospitality leadership, ownership representatives, and other department leaders to communicate engineering performance, capital needs, operational priorities, and strategic facility initiatives.
  • Ensure the property remains in exceptional condition by establishing best-in-class maintenance standards, protecting the owner's investment, and delivering a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment for guests and associates.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance building performance, reduce downtime, improve service delivery, and position The Beckworth as a premier hospitality destination in Uptown Charlotte.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in engineering leadership within a hotel, resort, or facilities management environment.
  • Experience in a hotel opening environment is highly preferred for the successful candidate
  • Deep knowledge of building systems, safety protocols, and preventative maintenance best practices.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills with a commitment to associate growth.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond swiftly to operational needs.
  • Familiarity with brand standards, licensing, certifications, and inspection processes is highly desirable.
