Using highly developed skills and program ingenuity, the Massage Therapist will provide Massage, Reiki, and Guided Relaxation/Meditation services to patients. The Massage Therapist will ensure medically safe practices and compliance with all Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) infection control policies. The Massage Therapist will collaborate closely with the multi-disciplinary clinical care team which may include research and education related activities. This position is responsible to adhere to all Bridgeport Hospital and Breast Care Department policies, procedures and mission.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Clinical:
    • 1.1 Provide clinical leadership in implementing the delivery of Massage, Reiki, and Guided Relaxation/Meditation services to BH patient population upon referral. Use evidence -based techniques to treat patient symptoms. Provide the highest quality of care in the practice of massage therapy. Ensure a safe environment, maintains equipment and supplies in a clean operable and safe manner, and follows institutional infection control policies. Ensures patients comfort and dignity, maintaining proper draping and positioning at all times.
  • 2. Research Related Activities:
    • 2.1 Work with department leadership to develop and implement Massage Practice protocols. Serve on research committees, and participate with educational programming for colleagues. May participate in clinical research including the design and implementation of studies, patient enrollment in clinical trial, data analysis , and writing of manuscripts. Remains current with recent research regarding massage therapy practice , especially in cancer care.
  • 3. Education:
    • 3.1 Educates other health care professionals and trainees about Massage, Reiki, and Guided Relaxation/Meditation, by providing lectures and mentoring individuals in clinical settings. Participates in outreach programs, conferences, retreats and other activities as part of program offerings. Maintains required CEU activities/programs.
  • 4. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Completion of a program of study from an accredited school of massage therapy

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years' experience as a CT Licensed Massage Therapist. Experience working in a hospital or out-patient healthcare setting with Oncology patients, Preferred.

LICENSURE

CT Licensed Massage Therapist Valid CT Driver's License

SPECIAL SKILLS

Strong communication skills Ability to work independently
