POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Weekend Program Coordinator assists in planning and implementing service delivery for individuals in the Correctional Residential Facility and homeless shelter at the Brantford Booth Centre.
The role provides confidential corrections counselling, education, case management and support to individuals, families and the community to promote healthy lifestyles, healthy choices, client stability and successful community integration.
The incumbent delivers direct one-on-one support, conducts assigned group work, provides direction to staff, checks results, and generally works alongside the team. The incumbent supervises full-time, part-time and/or casual relief employees across multiple departments during the shift and has input into, and may participate in, hiring, orientation, evaluation and discipline of staff.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Client Service, Case Management and Program Delivery
Serve actively as a member of the management team for the Brantford Booth Centre.
Provide oversight and supervision of Social Service staff and the day-to-day operation of programs in accordance with the mission, values, policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.
Conduct initial and ongoing assessments, treatment plans, referrals and integration of required services for assigned clients/residents.
Develop and implement case management plans for assigned clients/residents, including establishing goals, monitoring progress and supporting program completion.
Counsel clients/residents individually or in a group setting and provide corrections counselling, relapse prevention, early intervention, follow-up and aftercare support as required.
Conduct assigned group work and provide education to individuals and families about the causes and effects of addictions and related recovery needs.
Perform intake and discharge procedures for clients/residents as assigned, including reviews of client files provided by Correctional Service Canada and attendance at CAT meetings before accepting clients to the Booth Centre.
Conduct yearly visits to local federal institutions, interview potential clients and initiate intake.
Attend and facilitate case conferences with the Case Management Team and present case reports and client progress at regularly scheduled team meetings.
Provide written or oral reports on the progress of assigned clients to the Executive Director, Residential Services Manager or designate when required.
Refer clients to appropriate supports for personal care, employment, education, practical everyday needs, recovery needs, spiritual care and cultural practices.
Liaise with Police, Ministry of Social Services, Provincial Court, Correctional Service Canada, community agencies, family members and other staff as required.
Maintain an active interest in all phases of the residential program and suggest improvements as appropriate.
Provide backup support to the front desk and/or other program areas as needed.
Staff Leadership and Operations
Ensure duties assigned are completed in an appropriate, safe and efficient manner by the end of each respective shift.
Provide support and supervision to staff during shifts, including crisis intervention, conflict diffusion, problem solving and initial response to resident grievances to help ensure the safety of residents and staff.
Complete staff scheduling to ensure coverage for vacant shifts, including sick relief, statutory holiday coverage and vacation coverage.
Provide direction and support services to staff as required and act as workflow coordinator for team practices.
Participate in daily shift changes to ensure proper transmission of information from one shift to another.
Monitor and check logs to ensure completion of regular security checks.
Identify staff training requirements and make recommendations regarding staff development for those supervised.
Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings, service training, supervision and formal evaluation sessions.
May chair monthly or as-needed planning meetings for clients and other Social Services Workers.
Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
Documentation, Confidentiality and Reporting
Maintain and update all appropriate documentation related to clients/residents and submit written reports on caseload as required.
Maintain confidentiality and accurate statistical records, including SAMIS and other applicable reporting systems.
Provide statistical and evaluative information to management and funders as required.
Promptly report incidents in accordance with policy and document observations of clients/residents along with actions taken by staff.
Maintain information in strict confidence and according to Protected B, PHIPA and applicable organizational standards.
Adhere to standards consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army, including the Policy & Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook and professional code of ethics.
Health and Safety
Work in compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army health and safety policies and procedures.
Work in the manner required by the employer and use prescribed safety equipment.
In consultation with the Executive Director, provide oversight to WSIB claims and other health and safety matters as required within applicable departments, including supervision of the Early and Safe Return to Work Program.
Ensure proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness, including conducting incident investigations when required.
Participate in all health and safety related accident and injury investigations.
Ensure staff are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary.
Build and maintain a therapeutic environment with clients/residents; de-escalate tensions and resolve conflict in a therapeutic manner when necessary.
Organizational Responsibilities
Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications for position responsibilities.
Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position responsibilities are achieved.
Comply with all City of Brantford standards and contractual agreements.
Assist the Executive Director in scheduling and chairing staff meetings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular part-time position based on 16 hours per week.
The facility is a 24/7 operation; hours of work vary according to the requirements of position responsibilities.
Schedule may vary due to position requirements, including working outside the regular schedule.
This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation.
Local travel may be required, including travel to conduct in-reach at nearby correctional facilities and to attend local meetings.
Rotational on-call duties are required.
Normal hours of work: 11:00 am to 7:00pm, Saturday and Sunday

The work environment is typically an office or work site within a residential setting.
The incumbent may be exposed to disagreeable conditions, including dirt, bodily fluids, bodily waste, drugs and alcohol, noise, challenging behaviour, verbal abuse and odours.
The incumbent may be exposed to risk of moderate injury or illness due to physical attacks by others, infectious diseases, toxic chemicals, sharp objects and other dangerous situations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications
Completion of a formal post-secondary/university degree in a related field; BSW or equivalent is preferred.
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
CACCF certification (Canadian Corrections Counsellor Certification Federation) will be considered a strong asset.
Training in crisis intervention, conflict resolution and mediation skills is an asset.
First Aid/CPR certificate is required or must be obtained as directed.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification would be an asset or willingness to obtain.
E-learning requirements, including Abuse Prevention and WHMIS, must be completed before the first shift or as directed.
Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License is preferred but not necessary
