Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Student Affairs fosters student growth and development. The Division of Student Affairs aids, directs and informs students about services and programs that will expand students' educational experiences and prepare them for diverse lives in local and global communities. The Division of Student Affairs is responsible for many of the outside the classroom/off campus aspects of student life at NCCU, including student engagement and leadership; career services; student disability services; student leadership; residential life; student activities; student conduct; special programs and services; student health & counseling services and campus ministry.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Program Coordinator of the Academic Opportunities for Student Success Activity is a crucial resource for the development of student success on campus. The Program Coordinator shares the responsibilities for the daily operation of the Academic Opportunities for Student Success program, while providing leadership, mentoring, advising, and programming for students. This individual offers support and guidance to ensure academic and social success while promoting dialogue on matters related to college student development. The Program Coordinator is supervised by the Activity Coordinator of the Academic Opportunities for Student Success Activity and will assist in carrying out its long-term goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

โ€ข Knowledge of student development and higher education philosophies and theories, specifically those pertaining to student success.
โ€ข Excellent communication and organizational skills
โ€ข Ability to work in fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions

Minimum Education/Experience
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social work, Organizational Leadership, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of 18 months of experience working at the professional level with college students in a college setting.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social work, Organizational Leadership, or other related fields.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience working at the professional level with college students in a college setting.
  • Cultural programming or higher education programming experience
  • Marketing sills with excellent public speaking/presentation skills

  • Establish programs and services to promote the success of Academic Opportunities for Student Success Activity on campus, including mentoring, leadership development, academic skills enhancement, and individual tutoring services.
  • Coach and advise a roster of students using 'intrusive," hands-on techniques.
  • Serve as the primary or secondary advisor to at least one registered student organization that is affiliated with the Academic Opportunities for Student Success Activity, including but not limited to, Brothers of the MAC. These organizations are leadership structures led and organized by participants of the Academic Opportunities for Student Success Activity.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and advising pertaining to student's academic progress, personal and social concerns, major selection, and career guidance.
  • Maintain meticulous records of student interaction using EAB Navigate software.
  • Develop, administer, manager, and evaluate/assess the Academic Opportunities for Student Success Activity.

  • Ability to work during the hours the Academic Opportunities for Student Success Activity is open, in addition to working non-traditional hours, frequent multiple evenings and weekends per month, as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for other special projects as assigned by the Activity Coordinator.
