Job description

Hinge is the dating app designed to be deleted

In today's digital world, finding genuine relationships is tougher than ever. At Hinge, we're on a mission to inspire intimate connection to create a less lonely world. We're obsessed with understanding our users' behaviors to help them find love, and our success is defined by one simple metric- setting up great dates. With millions of users across the globe, we've become the most trusted way to find a relationship, for all.

About the Role

Ensuring the safety and security of the Hinge community is a core part of our product strategy and one of our most important competitive differentiators. The features that keep users safe, such as reporting and blocking flows, content moderation interfaces, identity verification touchpoints, and real-time safety interventions, are not just compliance checkboxes - they are product innovations that directly shape whether users feel confident enough to show up authentically. Getting them right demands both technical craft and genuine care for the humans using them.

As the Mobile Engineering Manager for this team, you'll lead a tight-knit group of 4-6 iOS and Android engineers embedded across our Trust & Safety teams. You'll be expected to maintain meaningful technical fluency and occasionally take on scoped projects yourself in Swift or Kotlin alongside your team.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a blended team of iOS and Android engineers, handling goal-setting, performance reviews, mentorship, coaching, team health, team staffing, and delivery

  • Participate actively in cross-functional planning, helping define Trust & Safety's roadmap and ensuring that the team makes effective progress against business goals

  • Collaborate with engineering management peers across Trust & Safety to develop a technical roadmap that complements the broader product roadmap

  • Take on individual contributor work for smaller, well-scoped projects on either platform, writing production Swift or Kotlin code as a complement to your management responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent quality and reliability standards across iOS and Android

  • Help shape mobile engineering best practices, including the adoption of AI-empowered development tooling, across code review culture, testing standards, and release processes

What We're Looking For
  • 6+ years of mobile engineering experience in Swift (iOS) and/or Kotlin (Android) - experience across both platforms is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience
  • Comfortable operating as a player-coach - you understand that your primary job is your team, but you can and will write production code when the situation calls for it
  • Genuine interest in how AI tooling is changing mobile development workflows, and the initiative to help your team adopt and benefit from those shifts
  • Experience building consumer-facing mobile features with a high bar for UX quality and reliability
  • Prior exposure to Trust & Safety, content moderation, or safety-adjacent product areas is a meaningful plus
  • Empathetic, direct communicator with your team, peers, and stakeholders
$191,500 - $229,500 a year
Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
As a member of our team, you'll enjoy:

401(k) Matching: We match 100% of the first 10% of pre-tax 401(k) contributions you make, up to a maximum of $10,000 per year.

Professional Growth: Get an annual Learning & Development stipend once you've been with us for three months. You also get free access to Udemy, an online learning and teaching marketplace with over 6000 courses, starting your first day.

ERGs: We have eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)-Asian, Unapologetic, Disability, LGBTQIA+, Raices, Women/Nonbinary, Parents -that hold regular meetings, host events, and provide dedicated support to the organization & its community.

At Hinge, our core values are...
