Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Associate II supports laboratory-based research by developing and implementing experimental protocols, conducting complex laboratory analyses, and maintaining research data systems to ensure data integrity, quality, and security. This position collaborates closely with the Principal Investigator to manage research data, troubleshoot project-related issues, analyze and interpret research findings, and prepare progress reports. The incumbent also stays current with emerging scientific methods and literature to support ongoing research initiatives and contribute to the advancement of research objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related field PLUS two (2) years of experience in a related research or laboratory setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to independently design, conduct, and troubleshoot scientific experiments using established scientific methods.
  • Ability to safely handle small laboratory animals.
  • Ability to stand at a laboratory bench, arrange equipment, handle fragile laboratory apparatus, frequently walk between laboratories, and lift up to 20 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in biological sciences or a related field.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
  • Training or experience in the safe handling of small laboratory animals.

Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
  • Maintains new and existing project and/or research databases. Establishes quality control and security protocols. Advises the Principal Investigator regarding project data issues and resolutions.
  • Develops research protocols for experimental analyses. Performs laboratory-based experimental work.
  • Participates in the evaluation of research results. Performs statistical analyses of data collected.
  • Evaluates and provides regular reports of study progress and research literature for new techniques that can be applied to on-going studies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
