Machine shop operating hours for students are
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Saturday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Mechanical Engineering Department is hiring two positions for the two work schedules below:
12:00 pm - 9:00 pm; Monday - Friday
or
3:00 pm - 9:00 pm; Monday - Friday and 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Saturday
Primary Purpose of Position
This position serves as a Research Operations Manager - with responsibility for the oversight and maintenance of safe operations within the Mechanical Engineering machine shop. Work responsibilities include student supervision, training, and assistance, as well as all appropriate or necessary equipment maintenance, modernization, and upgrades. May also provide support and guidance to students and faculty on projects. Maintains environmental safety and regulatory compliance with all Federal, State, and University guidelines and standards.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of general research experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Job Duties
Work requires knowledge of machine shop operation, instructional concepts, practices and procedures, shop operations, regulatory requirements, and safety/
The range of duties includes, but is not limited to:
  • Support research / instructional laboratory and shop operations by managing equipment used by faculty in the mechanical engineering department for their research/instruction laboratory demonstrations.
  • Facility planning and maintenance.
  • Inventory control, purchasing, and management of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintaining environmental safety and regulatory compliance with the university, including EH&S compliance.
  • Operation any and all research equipment and machines designed or procured.
  • Advise student competition teams by teaching proper design and manufacturing techniques using software and current industry methods.

Other Work Responsibilities
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Experience working in engineering/technology/applied physical sciences will be preferred.
  • Familiar with metal fabrication, milling, and lathes
  • Experience organizing and maintaining safety/environmental safety and health records for labs, including MSDS, chemical inventory, JSA's, training records, and EH&S documents of safe practices.
  • Familiarity with supervising or training students preferred
  • Technical training and work experience
