Job Summary

Assists pharmacists in performing a variety of duties related to the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients. These duties require knowledge of and skills in the preparation and distribution of drugs in various dosage forms. Responsible for unique tasks consistent with intern certification status requirement, and also performs specialized tasks not performed by other technicians. Supports pharmaceutical care for patients and complies with laws & regulations of appropriate state and federal agencies and guidelines of JCAHO.

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference

  • Obtains supplies, prepares and labels drug orders under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Calculates and compounds aliquot doses.

  • Distributes and/or transports medications to appropriate patient care areas in a timely manner and under a pharmacist's supervision.

  • Makes beneficial recommendations for improvements in procedures, guidelines and continuing education training.

  • Monitors inventory levels, stocks shelve, maintains order and cleanliness in assigned areas and maintains all required records.

  • Receives and/or initiates verbal medication orders if authorized to do so by his/her supervising pharmacist.

  • Serves as a good steward of the institution's resources, including time on the job.

  • Provides training and participates in the in servicing of departmental employees and students.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved technician course OR current enrollment or letter of acceptance in a professional academic pharmacy program at an accredited university

  • Experience - Satisfactory progress maintained in the professional academic pharmacy program

  • For team members working in South Carolina, current registration with State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of National, State, and Corporate regulations and standards.

  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology.

  • Mathematical skills

  • Problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to work in team situations

  • Ability to handle urgent, stressful situations

  • Corporate and departmental mandatory training required annually

  • Ability to exhibits interpersonal skills in interacting with supervisors, peers, and others outside pharmacy.
