About This Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Hog Production, the Hog Barn Manager will be accountable for all areas and activities at the Prejet Nursery, which is located near Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example to provide effective leadership, coaching and training to all employees under their direction.

  • Recruitment, selection and orientation of employees.

  • Training employees on a continuous basis through Pork Avenue Training and on the job training, SOP update, OHS and HR related matters.

  • Workforce planning – ability to evaluate the effectiveness of staffing compliments and individual’s performance in meeting the production targets.

  • Evaluate and manage employee’s performance.

  • Create an environment where employees are motivated to achieve company targets and objectives.

  • Reporting on variances in purchasing and developing corrective action plans to avoid shortages or excess in inventory.

  • Accountable for the implementation of CQA, Food Safety and Animal Welfare policies.

  • Accountable for the Environment and Sustainability initiatives on site.

  • Maintains a safe working environment by educating and directing employees on the use of equipment and safe work procedures while maintaining compliance with our OHS Program.

  • Ensures that the site is kept in a good state of repair by implementing a routine maintenance program.

  • Accurate payroll record keeping, tracking of absenteeism, vacation days, hours worked.

  • Effective strategic decision making – the ability to recognize that a decision is required and having the ability to seek the necessary information to make the decision.

  • Ability to prioritize the workload for their position and for the team through working with the Team Leads.

  • Identifying mechanical issues and recommending solutions to maximize the performance of the equipment.

  • Works with the Manager, Hog Production or the Senior Specialist, Hog Production to follow and implement new programs to meet and exceed our production and financial targets.

  • Review data reporting in all areas to transact and look for efficiencies.

  • Work in all production areas of the farm, as required.

  • Accountable for accurate inventory levels and purchasing.

  • Attendance at Hog Barn Manager/Operations/Health and Safety Meetings/Training workshops as required.

Skills & Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a swine production role is required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role is required.

  • A valid driver’s license is required as the successful candidate must have the ability to attend training/meetings.

  • Computer knowledge is required.

  • Grade 12 diploma is preferred.

  • Post-secondary education is an asset.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

  • Work in a team environment.

  • Work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously.

  • Manage potentially stressful situations.

  • Work independently and with little direction.
