Part-Time Food Program Associate

Choice Pantry Bronx (CPBX)

Location: Bronx, NY

New York Common Pantry is one of the city’s largest hunger relief organizations, providing food assistance, case management services, senior food provision, nutrition education, and hygiene services. We are a dynamic, mission-driven organization experiencing rapid growth and expansion.

NYCP is a poverty-fighting organization that reduces hunger and promotes dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by using a holistic approach. Last year, we assisted over 764,000 visitors, served over 11.7 million meals, and accessed $10.7 million in public benefits resources for our guests. Through an array of programs that we offer, we look to establish long-term stability for those we serve.

The Part-Time Food Programs Associate (CPBX) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of NY Common Pantry facilities related to program needs and building maintenance; facilitating food operations for Pantry distribution; maintaining building security, and ensuring proper receipt of all deliveries and maintenance of inventory.

The Part-Time Food Programs Associate (CPBX) will report to the Food Programs Manager (CPBX) at the 1290 Hoe Ave, Bronx, NY 10459 location. The schedule for this position is Wednesday to Saturday: 8:30 am - 3:15 pm; 30-minute lunch. This is a part-time position, up to 28 hours a week, non-exempt.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive, inspect, and verify all food and supply deliveries to ensure shipments are accurate, complete, and properly documented.

  • Review invoices for accuracy and submit them to the Food Programs Manager for processing.

  • Inspect delivered food products for quality, condition, and compliance with applicable expiration and “use by” dates, ensuring adherence to food safety standards and organizational guidelines.

  • Support food deliveries, inventory management, and daily food program operations as needed.

  • Train volunteers on the assembly of pantry packages and ensure that online orders are properly stored on shelves for the assigned pick-up time.

  • Assist with food program operations by supporting volunteers and directing program participants to appropriate services and program areas.

  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of food, supplies, and program materials, ensuring products are stored safely and in accordance with established procedures.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant food storage areas, including proper stock rotation (FIFO) to preserve product quality and freshness and meet health and safety requirements.

  • Oversee the collection, sorting, and baling of cardboard and other recyclable materials to ensure timely and efficient recycling pickup.

  • Support facility waste management operations, including the proper handling and timely placement of trash and recycling for collection.

  • Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the facility’s interior and exterior spaces prior to the start of daily operations, including offices, common areas, and program spaces.

  • Prepare, set up, and break down the multi-purpose room for daily programming, including meetings, training, and special events.

  • Promote a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for program participants, volunteers, staff, and visitors.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs is required.

  • Commitment to helping the communities in need and NYCP’s work and mission.

  • Experience working in food distribution, warehouse operations, logistics, or nonprofit programs.

  • Certification in Food Safety Handling by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is preferred.

  • Comfortable working with diverse populations.

  • Multi-task and work in a highly trafficked area.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
