Hannaford Supermarkets started out as a fresh produce vendor in Portland, Maine way back in 1883, and is still connected to those early roots as a local market. Hannaford actively seeks out farmers and producers to join our Local program which celebrates not only local foods, but the preservation of farmland, local traditions and local jobs. The connection we have to the source of our fresh foods is core to the way we do business, becoming the first major supermarket in the United States to document that all its seafood products were sustainably harvested.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Develop and expand knowledge of seafood product storage and preparation techniques.
* Observe and follow all company policies and established standard practices.
* Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and comply with company personal appearance policy.
* Assist in special projects and perform other functions as assigned by supervision.
* Assist in training other associates when assigned.
* Build and maintain ice wall.
* Maintain solid communication in the department and throughout the organization.
* Work within our company's management planning (MPP) guidelines to maintain productivity.
* Support company safety standards. Communicate any needed equipment repairs or maintenance work needed. Keep work area free from debris and safety hazards.
* Treat all co-workers with fairness and dignity.
* Have total understanding of department's standard practice manual and its intent.
* Observe and maintain company sanitation and food safety standards.
* Maintain the quality of department's appearance and presentation.
* Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Effective communication, customer service, and selling skills.
* Effective interpersonal skills and desire to work in a team environment.
* Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
Physical Requirements
* Tolerate working in extreme cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.
* Stand or walk 100% of the time while working in an area surrounded by freezers and coolers filled with ice.
* Lift cases of products weighing up to 50 lb. frequently.
* Meet established volume activity standards.
* Frequent reaching, grasping and lifting of products with arms fully extended: waist to shoulder height.
* Use hands to feel objects, use knives to open boxes/cases or to prepare and clean fish.
* Frequent bending.
* Handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning materials, packaging materials, and food products.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
* Provide outstanding, friendly customer service. Communicate with and assist customers in selection of product.
* Cut, filet and display seafood. Process merchandise properly, paying careful attention to rotation of products according to prescribed standards.
* Perform assigned tasks such as replenishing merchandise, preparation of food products or setting up displays etc.
* Maintain accurate, neat records of production, shrink, sales, and inventory.
* Package and display products according to customer demands.
* Wash, rinse, and sanitize equipment according to company policies.
* Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Salary range is between $ 15.90 - $21.60 Hrly
