Job Summary
The FishLab Intern will participate in an eight-week research experience focused onfish ecology and aquatic ecosystem studies. The primary research focus involvesdetermining the diet composition of Mississippi Sound fishes to support andimprove ecosystem modeling efforts, while also assisting with water qualitydata collection. The internship includes hands on field work conducted fromshore and aboard small and large research vessels, as well as laboratory-basedresearch activities. This position provides practical experience in fisheriesresearch, field sampling, laboratory analysis, and scientific data collection.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Participate in water quality and fish sampling activities in the field.
  2. Prepare samples for analysis.
  3. Perform stomach content analysis.
  4. Analyze research data and assist with presenting results.
  5. Perform other job duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsMust bepursuing a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in MarineBiology or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Physical ability to perform field work in potentially harsh environmental conditions
  • Ability to work extended periods using a microscope for laboratory analysis
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of fish and shellfish ecology

Preferred QualificationsOne semester(or summer) of experience in marine biology field and laboratory work.
