Process Engineer with Pressure Safety Device Experience
Job Description:
- Meet or exceed the company and customer safety standards
- Comply with all company and customer procedures, engineering practices and other standards
- Provide leadership and coordination to Client efforts to improve and implement Pressure Safety Device (PSD) strategies and Process Safety Management (PSM) programs related to PSDs at Texas Client sites
- Ability to supervise other pressure safety engineers, provide coaching and senior review for project work, especially complex tasks such as reactor systems or vent header analysis. As required or as applicable
- Skilled at delegating work, assigning tasks according to skill and workload while providing coaching and technical advice. As required or as applicable
- Ability to manage complexity with multiple, simultaneous projects with competing priorities
- Ability to balance project work against ongoing code compliance and PSV/vent header sizing verification demands, discussing with management when requests are not feasible or may be better assigned to staff outside of the pressure safety group
- Review the overall Client Pressure Relief Device (PRD) program management against other outside organizations and making recommendations to ensure Client is implementing best Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP), in calculation basis, interpretations of code and regulations, workflows and processes
- Interface directly with Client Texas Standards Committee on issues and recommendations related to the PRD program
- Ability to manage Management of Change (MOCs), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSRs), Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), PHA action items closures and Data analytics
- Evaluate existing Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) piping configurations for conformity to relative codes and regulations and recommend changes
- Develop process design packages for PSVs (scenarios, sizing calculations, pressure drops, etc)
- Analyze system depressuring scenarios, flare header sizing and selection calculations
- Participate in unit PSV reviews, recommend intervals and frequencies for these reviews to Client PSM Manager and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) manager
- Simulate processes with process simulation software programs, i.e. IPRSM
- Perform hydraulic calculations relative to the following: pump calculations, control valves, restriction orifices, rupture discs, line sizing, etc...
- Knowledgeable in the following standards: API 520, API 521, API 2000, ASME Section I, ASME Section VIII, TEMA, etc...
- Provide training to Client Process groups and other groups to ensure an understanding of the overall basis for PRD and vent sizing, so they may better support efforts in PRD calculation as well as improving the quality of submitted MOC packages
- Read and fully understand Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Equipment Data Sheets, Instrument Data Sheets, Piping Isometrics and Piping Specifications
- Maintain cooperative, efficient, and good team working environment
- Communicate, both verbally and in written form in a professional manner
Skills / Qualifications:
- A BS or MS degree in Chemical Engineering with some relevant knowledge in Mechanical Engineering
- 5-10 years of Process Engineering experience
- 5+ years of proven experience in analyzing Pressure Safety Devices
- 3+ years proficiency with utilization of; IPRSM, Aspen-Hysis and Proflow 3
- Proficiency in Visio, SAP, Trueview and PI
- Proficiency in Microsoft products such as; Word, Excel and Outlook
- Field experience, able to wear required PPE and drive safely to job site for verification of as-built site conditions relating to equipment, relief components, piping systems, etc...
