Requirements: Ph.D in Spanish or a closely related area from a regionally accredited institution. Must have experience teaching a wide variety of Spanish courses at the college level. Must have experience mentoring and promoting student engagement at the undergraduate level.
Responsibilities: Full-time tenure-track position in Spanish (assistant professor with promotion path to associate professor and professor). Duties include but not limited to: Teach 24 hours per academic year on campus, including elementary and intermediate Spanish courses along with grammar and composition and Latin American literature/cultural studies. Develop course materials for existing courses and develop new courses as needed. Mentor students and participate / coordinate student activities within the department. Participate in department / college / university-level governance and initiatives and community outreach as part of service responsibilities. Maintain active research agenda with scholarly publications required for tenure and promotion. No hire / fire authority.

About the Department: The Department of English and Modern Languages at Fort Hays State University offers a Bachelor of Arts in English with three concentrations: Literature, Teaching, and Writing; a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in two concentrations: Spanish Education and Spanish for Specific Purposes; and a Master of Arts degree in English. Most programs are offered both on-campus and online. The Department has been an integral part in the university's international programs, offering our Composition sequence in cross-border programs in China for over twenty years. We envision our graduate concentration as important training for similar careers in teaching academic writing internationally. In addition, the department offers courses in the general education program including the first-year composition sequence, interdisciplinary courses, and modern languages.

FHSU is located in Hays, a vibrant college town of approximately 20,000, located halfway between Kansas City and Denver on Interstate 70. Hays is the regional center for education, health care, professional services, shopping, culture, and recreation for the western half of Kansas. The community boasts excellent recreational programs and facilities, including the comprehensive Center for Health Improvement, Hays Aquatic Park, Smoky Hill Country Club, Hays Municipal Golf Course, and extensive walking, running, and biking trails.
