Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in food and nutritional sciences; developing a research program in food and nutrition and securing external grants; advising graduate and undergraduate students, participating in curriculum development; collaborating with faculty on research and creative scholarship activities; serving on departmental, college and university committees and participating in other academic functions.
This is a 9-month tenure track position.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 14,311 students in Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master's programs, and 12 doctoral programs. It is America's top producer of Black graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Science bachelor's programs, as well as a top five producer in numerous additional disciplines, including Liberal Arts and Communications/Journalism. The Department of Family And Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations , child development early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), consumer sciences, fashion merchandising and design, nutrition and food science. Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences, a Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education, and a Master of Arts in Teaching in child development early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure). Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles and in child and family studies.
Minimum Requirements
Must hold a Doctorate in Food Science or Nutritional Science or a closely related field with a focus on food biochemistry. Teaching experience with strong technology skills in classrooms, a record of scholarly achievement, and grant writing experience are essential.

The ideal candidate will bring interdisciplinary expertise that bridges food science and nutrition and have experience teaching graduate and undergraduate courses (such as food microbiology and bio-technology, food safety and sanitation, risk assessment, food protection and defense).
