In the role of Utility Coordination Engineer, we'll count on you for:
  • Utility Coordination - Lead coordination between the project team and utility owners existing within the vicinity of a civil engineering project to identify, understand, confirm, and mitigate utility risk to the project. Lead associated meetings and development of meeting materials and documentation.
  • Utility Investigation - Oversight utility records research. Serve as Engineer of Record for Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations performed by HDR and / or oversight investigations performed by subconsultants.
  • Utility Conflict Resolution - Identify utility conflicts on civil engineering projects and lead develop solutions to resolve conflicts which may revised project design or relocation of utilities.
  • Utility Design -Design and / or coordination with wet and dry utility design SMEs as required to accommodate proposed civil improvements.
  • Utility Plan Production - Prepare utility-related client deliverables such as civil project plans and specifications. Preparation of exhibits for utility owners.
  • Utility Field Coordination - Work with utility owners and construction management teams during the installation of utility relocations.
  • Overall Project Team Coordination - Work with the overall civil project team, project engineers, and project managers to meet client needs and objectives.
  • Overall Quality - Apply company/client quality assurance guidelines and procedures for project documents, time and budget management. Participate in the QA/QC review of plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Project Scoping - Assist the business lead with development of proposal material including preparation of scope and fee estimates.
  • Staff Management - Anticipated that this position will assist in hiring and supervising one or more Utility EIT's to assist with overall group efforts.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of four years of related experience in the Transportation/Roadway/Utility industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Previous experience in general civil engineering.
  • A minimum of two years of experience directly coordinating with utility providers.
  • Proficiency with CAD programs such as Civil3D and MicroStation ORD.
  • Proficiency with GIS-related programs such as ArcGIS and Field Maps.
  • Proficiency with PDF-editing software such as Bluebeam or Adobe.
  • Field experience in construction oversight or surveying capacity.
  • Strong understanding of surveying techniques including the application of project control to field data collection and deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of real estate principles and the ability to comprehend easements and other general documents associated with property rights.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Hands-on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
  • MS Office knowledge
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
