Founded in 1894, The Washington Golf & Country Club (WGCC) is one of the nation's most distinguished private clubs, celebrated for its traditiion of excellence, refined atmosphere, and outstanding member service. With panoramic views of the D.C. skyline and a legacy of hospitality spanning more than a century, WGCC offers an extraordinary member and guest experience- and we're looking for a Tennis Maintenance Staff Member to join our team! 


The Tennis Maintenance Staff Member is responsible for the daily maintenance operations and activities at the tennis facility as well as ensuring the facility is clean, safe and well stocked.


 Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of field maintenance tasks, depending upon assignments
  • Ensure that the venue is safe and that all potential hazards are corrected
  • Open the facility and turn on all indoor lights
  • Vacuum indoor courts 1-5 once a day in the winter and fall and every other day in the spring and summer • Have the indoor courts ready for play at 6:00 a.m.
  • Dry and roll all 10 soft courts
  • Sweep and line all 10 soft courts by 8:30 a.m.
  • Have one outdoor soft court open and ready for play at 5:30 a.m.
  • Provide cups and towels for outdoor play throughout the day
  • Wipe down all chairs, tables, and benches outside
  • Clear all concrete paths leading to the outdoor tennis courts
  • Empty all trash containers on tennis courts and assigned locker rooms three times per shift
  • Take the trash across the street to the dumpster
  • Gather all soiled towels and launder them throughout the day
  • Clean and restock locker rooms before 6:00 a.m. and throughout the day as needed
  • Prepare requisition for supplies in assigned locker room
  • Wipe down displays in the Tennis Pro Shop
  • Clean and restock 1st floor handicap bathroom three times a day
  • Prepare table(s) for Women’s Team food
  • Vacuum all indoor carpeted areas downstairs and in assigned locker room twice a day
  • Replace water cooler on indoor court number 1 daily or as needed
  • Pressure wash indoor tennis courts as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ years commensurate experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Ability to perform a variety of field maintenance tasks
  • Knowledge of power tools and a variety of cleaning utensils
  • Knowledge of maintaining outdoor Har-Tru tennis courts is a plus
  • Ability to learn an irrigation system
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to a wide variety of constituents
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship-building skills
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  •  Must be able to sit, walk, squat, kneel, reach, bend, stoop, twist, stand, climb, clean/scrub, drive and lift up to 75 pounds
  •  Must be able to handle hot and cold interior and exterior conditions
  •  Must be able to handle exposure to dust, fumes or gases
  •  Must be able to be near moving machinery
  •  Must be able to work from heights
  •  Independent mobility
