ABOUT THE POSITION

Structural Bridge Engineer Project Manager | Hybrid

VHB is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer/Project Manager to join the dynamic and growing Structures group in our Wethersfield, CT office. In this position, you would serve in a lead role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, as well as helping to lead and mentor our technical staff. There is an option for someone to work from another VHB office to support CT projects, if meeting all qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused transportation projects
  • Prepares proposals and/or contracts; Participates in project decisions regarding technical approach, costs, and scheduling
  • Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development
  • Directs and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.
  • Project management/task management
  • Reviews plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering

  • Knowledge of structural engineering software (AASHTOWare, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad)
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenBridge, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus

Qualifications

  • 8-11 years of professional experience in structural bridge design, construction phasing, and complex bridge projects required
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required (structural emphasis preferred)
  • Master's degree preferred and may substitute for 1-2 years of experience
  • PE license required
  • Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO & DOT
  • Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis
