Job description

Applicants must have a valid driver's license for this position. You may need to obtain a Motor Vehicle Report from your license state of issuance if that state does not provide MVRs to third parties. ***A Texas driver's license must be obtained in order to maintain eligibility to drive on behalf of Spec's per the insurance company. Texas requires all new resident drivers to obtain a Texas license within 90 days of residing in the state. The individuals who perform this job are experienced drivers that can function as part of a team as well as effectively function independently. This position requires the safe and timely delivery of assigned loads to final destinations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and our Core Values.
  2. Maintain uniform standard, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
  3. Maintain a clear driving record.
  4. Maintain safe driving practices and speeds.
  5. Maintain a neat and orderly vehicle.
  6. Move supplies and equipment when needed to ensure efficient storage space in delivery vehicle.
  7. Receive and verify contents of all shipments to be delivered.
  8. Make notes on invoices showing variances and products damaged during store deliveries.
  9. Return products damaged during deliveries, including TABC tax stamps.
  10. Maintain driver route sheet after every stop.
  11. Ensure compliance with standardized filing system for store-to-store transfer paperwork and pick-ups.
  12. May be required to assist in unloading based on location needs.
  13. Receive payment for deliveries and verify amounts accurately.
  14. Inform manager of inventory issues or discrepancies with invoices encountered on route.
  15. Provide feedback to management regarding issues with delivery vans and box trucks.
  16. Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  17. Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  18. Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  19. Create and maintain strong professional relationships with our customers.
  20. Provide superb customer service.
  21. Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  22. Ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
  23. Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  24. Communicate with and understand team members and guests. See invoices, product, payment methods, and signage.
  25. Be able to use industrial machines to move full pallets that weigh up to 2400 pounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed above satisfactorily. State law says you must be over the age of 21 to work at Specs. Specs insists that you be a human being (my dogs are cute, but they cannot do the job). The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In other words, here is the technical stuff:

Education or Experience

We would love you to have at least 1-2 years of driving experience. We would like you to have a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED), but sometimes, experience is the best education.

Language Skills

We need you to be able to read, comprehend and write simple instructions or memos. You must be able to talk and communicate with coworkers and guests. Bilingual is a plus but not required.

Mathematical Skills

You need the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals without the aid of calculator or abacus. Counting is a major plus too as your count becomes inventory.

Attitudinal and Personal Skills

You have the job. Now you need to do the job. You need to be responsible, reliable, and committed to providing excellent service. Patience, friendliness, and an outgoing personality are needed for success. You need to be a self-starter with a strong work ethic who completes job assignments in a timely fashion and then looks for the next task.

Hours

Full Time is typically 40 hours per week. Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday and must be available 80% or more of all shifts each week.

Part Time is up to 25 hours per week

We schedule for the needs of our business. Working outside of your scheduled time without Store Manager approval is prohibited. In other words, you cannot decide to make up hours because you missed some time after a night out with your buddies unless your manager oks it.

Reasoning Ability

You need the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Knowing when to come in from the rain is a plus.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job regularly requires standing, walking, or bending; use of hands and fingers to handle or feel; reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balance; talking and hearing. You must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with proper tools. You must be able to use a industrial machine to move pallets up to 2400 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment and Environmental Conditions

We provide a fun and positive environment in for our staff. Must be able to drive in all types of weather. The noise level is usually moderate to loud.
