Job description

Summary

Our client, a leading utility engineering and construction company recognized as a Best Choice Employer for Utility and Network Construction, is seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) to oversee engineering design activities and ensure the quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) process for work performed by the design team. Specializing in telecommunications, electric utility, low-voltage technology, structured cabling, security, fiber infrastructure, engineering, surveying, and design services, the company is known for its long-term customer relationships, employee ownership, profit-sharing opportunities, commitment to safety, and career development.

In this role, you will apply your technical expertise to execute projects safely, efficiently, and economically while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations. You will oversee engineering design, evaluate and estimate design work, support complex projects, perform engineering analyses such as cable sizing, voltage drop, flicker, and system modeling, coordinate design resources, and stamp engineering drawings as required.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia with a strong background in utility or telecommunications engineering and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee engineering design activities and ensure compliance with established QA/QC processes.
  • Review, evaluate, and estimate engineering design work for telecommunications and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support for complex design projects.
  • Perform cable sizing calculations, voltage drop analysis, flicker analysis, and system modeling as required.
  • Coordinate and schedule design resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Review engineering drawings, calculations, and project documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Stamp and seal engineering drawings and documents as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and clients to support successful project delivery.
  • Identify technical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Virginia is required.
  • Willingness to obtain Professional Engineer licenses in additional states as needed.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and engineering compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable telecom, civil engineering, and utility design regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and manage engineering work for large and complex projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical design skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with utility infrastructure, telecommunications, or civil engineering projects is preferred.
