Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The purpose of this position is to tutor students, enhance their mathematics knowledge and help them develop the skills necessary to succeed in a variety of math courses. Tutors will utilize a collaborative and interactive process to enable and encourage students to become a more effective and independent learner.
Work/schedule hours vary, however may be within any time that the Math Learning Center is open.
Minimum Qualifications
MATH LEARNING CENTER - PROFESSIONAL TUTOR (LEVEL I) -
  • 12 college credit hours, "B" average for Math classes

MATH LEARNING CENTER - PROFESSIONAL TUTOR (LEVEL II) -
  • 60 college credit hours, "B" average for Math classes

MATH LEARNING CENTER - PROFESSIONAL TUTOR (LEVEL III) -
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics or a Math-related field ***OR*** Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 21 college credit hours in Mathematics

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong mathematical skills and logical reasoning.
  • Ability to effectively articulate mathematical concepts. Capable of working with students from different cultural backgrounds as well as various academic levels and needs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior tutoring experience.
  • Completion of Calculus I and II with high standing.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (preferably Canvas).
  • Proficient with a variety of calculators and math software such as MyMathLab.
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative in fulfilling responsibilities.
