They work with students of various ages and abilities, tailoring lessons to individual needs and learning styles. Tutors may assist with homework, exam preparation, and foundational skills, either in person or online. Their goal is to make challenging math topics more approachable and to foster academic success.

How do professional math tutors typically collaborate with classroom teachers or academic staff?

Professional Math Tutors often work closely with classroom teachers and academic staff to ensure their tutoring sessions complement the curriculum and address individual student needs. This collaboration may involve regular communication about student progress, sharing insights on areas where students struggle, and aligning tutoring strategies with classroom instruction. By working together, tutors and teachers can create a cohesive support system that maximizes student learning outcomes. This teamwork is especially valuable in school-based or after-school tutoring programs.

To thrive as a Professional Math Tutor, you need strong mathematical knowledge, teaching experience, and at least a bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related field. Description:

Are you interested in earning money as a tutor this year? Do you want to interact directly with students while building relationships and instilling a passion for learning? Would you like to receive training and experience in Amplify's assessment and intervention products?

Amplify Tutoring is seeking remote, part-time Virtual Math Tutors to provide small-group 3rd-5th grade math tutoring for students during the 2026-2027 School Year.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR:

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Fluent English speaker.

  • Comfortable and highly skilled with technology.

  • Comfortable providing instruction in 3rd-5th grade math topics (ex. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions).

  • Available a minimum of 90 minutes a day, 3 days a week (M-F) at consistent times during the school day between 8am-4pm ET (ex. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10:00-11:30).

  • Have access to a personal laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone (Chromebooks, iPads/tablets, and smart phones cannot be used for this role).

  • Enjoys working with elementary age students.

  • Willing to accept and implement ongoing coaching and feedback.

  • Interested in participating in professional development and learning opportunities to help students meet their math goals.

WHAT TO EXPECT AS A TUTOR:

Compensation: The compensation for this role is $18 per hour for delivery of tutoring sessions and $15 per hour for lesson preparation and professional development. Tutors will be employed and paid via a 3rd party staffing agency as a W2 contracted employee. Tutors are compensated for each tutoring session as well as lesson preparation time for each tutoring session delivered. Tutors are also compensated for their initial training and ongoing professional development throughout the year.

Background Checks: If selected, fingerprinting and background checks will be required. Tutors cannot work with students prior to clearance. Initial fingerprinting costs average $50-$150. Tutors are reimbursed for costs associated with fingerprinting after submission of receipts.

Equipment: Curriculum is provided to the tutor. Tutors must be able to supply their own laptop/computer, with webcam and microphone, and headphones that can be used during their tutoring assignment and/or during professional development activities and meetings. Chromebooks, iPads/tablets, and smart phones cannot be used for this role. To ensure the best instructional flow, a reliable high-speed connection is required, and the use of dual monitors is strongly preferred to balance student work and engagement effectively.

Technology: Our ideal candidate is a digital multitasker capable of seamlessly managing a high-energy virtual small group classroom across multiple platforms. You must be adept at navigating several browser tabs simultaneously, monitoring real-time student data for accuracy while maintaining eye contact and "reading the room" via video. Proficiency with virtual math manipulatives and on-screen annotation tools is essential for modeling concepts.

Location: This is a remote part-time position. All candidates must be physically residing within the 50 states of the United States and meet U.S. employment eligibility requirements. Tutors should have a private, quiet location free from distractions to work from.

Scheduling: Tutors can request to work between 9 to 39 hours per week. Most tutors work between 9 and 15 hours per week during the school year. Tutoring sessions are conducted exclusively on weekdays, with no weekend classes. Tutors must be available for a 15-minute early login prior to their session start. Each tutoring assignment lasts approximately 15 weeks. We ask tutors to commit to the assigned tutoring group for the entire duration. Amplify works to fill each tutor's desired number of hours; however, we cannot guarantee immediate or overall work at the volume requested, as this is highly dependent on the tutor's availability matching ongoing school district needs. Tutoring sessions are held according to individual school schedules and may be affected by school closures or session cancellations (ex. holidays, state and local testing, weather, etc.).

Lesson Planning and Delivery: Planning and delivering tutoring lessons are the foundation of our work. Tutoring sessions are delivered using our structured, research-based curriculum. Tutors are compensated for both planning and delivering their tutoring sessions. Tutors are compensated for planning time that matches their session length (typically 30 minutes). Planning time includes any early login required. Once they have demonstrated their success, tutors may have the opportunity to obtain additional endorsements in literacy tutoring (grades K-5 or 6-8), administering assessments, and other special projects.

Culture and Community: At Amplify, we truly value our tutors. We provide various resources like ongoing professional training and supportive coaching to help them get better at what they do. We also have online platforms for tutors to connect, share ideas, and learn from each other.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE HIRING PROCESS:

Apply: Submit your application using the link below.

Interview: Complete a one-way interview designed to showcase your experience and educational knowledge. The interview portion is intended to replicate a face-to-face interview and can be completed in about 15 minutes.

Screening: Fill out a screening survey to ensure your availability matches current needs.

Hiring Decision: Please complete the application and interview as soon as possible.

Onboarding: If you're chosen to join our team, we'll ask you to do two things through our 3rd party staffing agency:

  • Fill out paperwork, including tax documents, I9 verification, and a contractor agreement for tutors.

  • Complete a national name based background check.

Training: Once you have cleared your onboarding, you must complete the following within 2 weeks of your start date:

  • Complete one or more background checks that require fingerprinting. It can take anywhere from 2 to 6+ weeks for your fingerprints to be processed, depending on the assigned state or school district.

  • A paid training course to learn how to navigate Amplify platforms and materials (approx. 10-15 hours).
