Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Sr. Claims Counsel, Environmental and Design Professional Liability in our North America Insurance Claims team. The successful candidate will be able to provide insight and analysis on complex high profile/high exposure Architects & Engineers (Design Professional Liability) and Environmental (Contractors Pollution and Professional Liability, Site Environmental Liability and Excess Environmental Liability) claims.

What you'll be doing:
  • Provide coverage, liability, and damages analysis for complex environmental and professional liability claims, including Architects & Engineers, Construction Professional, and Pollution.
  • Proactively identify exposures and claim trends affecting the portfolio, and provide written assessments to the Sompo Pro and North America Environmental business units.
  • Resolve coverage issues and respond to questions from underwriting, senior management, and other internal functional groups.
  • Assist with Environmental and Professional Lines policy drafting.
  • Represent the Company effectively at client meetings, mediations, external meetings, industry events, and conferences, including speaking, presenting, and publishing on claims trends and issues as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the success of the Global Sompo Claims Team by collaborating on complex claims, cross-functional initiatives, special projects, travel, and other duties as directed by management.

What you'll bring:
  • Law degree required.
  • Minimum three years of claims, insurance supervisory, and/or relevant law firm experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze coverage, liability, and damages for complex professional liability claims, particularly Architects & Engineers and/or Environmental lines.
  • Experience handling complex primary and excess claims, attending mediations, and negotiating settlements.
  • Strong ability to build effective working relationships with underwriting, actuarial, and legal partners, with a strong commitment to client service.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, communication, organizational, and computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with Guidewire and ImageRight is a plus.

Salary Range: $125,000 - $175,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
