Job description

Package Designer

Your creativity, technical design expertise, and passion for developing compelling consumer packaging make you a great fit for our Package Designer position. Join our dynamic team and play a key role in bringing Dollar Tree's private brands and products to life through innovative packaging, product design, and corporate artwork that enhances customer experience and strengthens our brand portfolio.

About Your Role:

As a Package Designer at Dollar Tree, you'll be responsible for designing, executing, and maintaining high-quality packaging, product artwork, and private brand assets across multiple product categories. You'll collaborate closely with Merchandising, Imports, Testing, Quality Assurance, Global Sourcing, suppliers, and external vendors to ensure packaging meets creative, regulatory, and business requirements while supporting Dollar Tree's brand strategy.

Your day-to-day job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Package Designer

  • Design and develop packaging, product artwork, templates, and private brand creative from concept through final production.
  • Create trend-right graphics, prints, repeat patterns, and product artwork that support apparel, home, and consumer product assortments.
  • Format packaging layouts, including graphics, typography, photography, illustrations, and structural elements to meet packaging objectives.
  • Collaborate with Creative Brand & Packaging leadership and merchant teams to develop seasonal product artwork and category-specific designs.
  • Conduct marketplace research alongside merchandising teams to identify emerging trends and translate findings into innovative packaging and product concepts.

Brand Management & Production

  • Maintain the quality, accuracy, and consistency of private label brands, product design, and packaging across multiple product categories.
  • Develop and maintain standardized GBI/Dollar Tree art boards, templates, and design standards.
  • Review corporate artwork and provide technical feedback to art houses to ensure compliance with Dollar Tree standards.
  • Utilize legal databases to ensure proper trademark usage across all private brand packaging.
  • Review digital and print proofs to ensure creative accuracy, technical compliance, and execution of design intent.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Merchandising, Imports, Testing, Quality Assurance, Global Sourcing, suppliers, and external vendors throughout the packaging development process.
  • Provide clear creative direction and technical guidance to suppliers and vendors for packaging implementation.
  • Serve as a liaison between Dollar Tree, suppliers, and external partners to ensure projects remain on schedule and meet quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to resolve testing label issues and implement required packaging revisions.

Project Coordination & Process Management

  • Maintain accurate production schedules, project trackers, and records for packaging and product development initiatives.
  • Ensure packaging deadlines are achieved through effective project management and coordination.
  • Archive packaging layouts, approvals, photography, fonts, and final artwork following established department standards.
  • Rename and organize corporate artwork files according to company nomenclature and manage uploads for vendor access.
  • Support onboarding and mentoring of new designers while sharing best practices and technical knowledge across the team.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current on packaging trends, design technologies, software enhancements, and industry best practices.
  • Build category expertise by regularly evaluating Dollar Tree stores and competitive retailers to identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Present category recommendations and design concepts that support evolving customer preferences and business objectives.
  • Continuously improve design processes, workflows, and team resources to increase efficiency and creative excellence.

Your Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in CPG graphic design, creative production, packaging design, or project management.
  • Strong understanding of consumer packaged goods (CPG) design, branding principles, and packaging regulations.
  • Expert proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop, in an Apple/Macintosh environment.
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 and project management software.
  • Strong understanding of color theory, typography, layout, branding, and product development processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when reviewing and proofing packaging artwork.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience designing private label packaging for retail brands.
  • Experience developing corporate artwork, packaging templates, and production-ready files.
  • Knowledge of print production processes, packaging manufacturing, and vendor management.
  • Experience mentoring designers or coordinating creative production workflows.

Start Rate = $55,000.00 - $63,500.00 based on experience plus 5% bonus and equity.
