The Opportunity

As a Design-Build Pursuit Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with cross-organizational pursuit teams to manage pursuit and proposal efforts, support team growth in the Water Design-Build (DB) market through a variety of tasks, and incorporate best practices to develop winning sales messages and documents. This dynamic role engages in large, complex high-risk pursuits and supports a wide range of design-build needs cost-to-coast. In this role, you will: 

  • Complete pursuit tasks with limited day-to-day supervision 
  • Collaborate with the greater Water DB team to support business development and market growth 
  • Champion all-things design-build, learning BV's history and experience, developing specialized content for pursuit and positioning needs, and being a resource for the team
  • When required, facilitate strategy components for identified pursuits 
  • Coordinate proposal deliverables using strong communication, time management, and Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite design software

The Team

Black & Veatch's Integrated Water & Environmental business focuses on water and environmental solutions to meet the needs of municipalities, state, and local governments. By joining our team, you will contribute to infrastructure that benefits our greater community. This role may work across all sectors, segments, and solutions for a holistic approach to client needs and therefore provides for a broad view of all of Black & Veatch's offerings.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate moderate to complex pursuits with high risk profiles. In addition to duties identified at the PUR 14 level, duties may include: 

  • Research and gather proposal materials, including drafting non-technical content using staff contributions, prior materials and proposals, and internal resources, writing missing pieces where needed 
  • Coordinate proposal content and proposal layout 
  • Work with cross-organizational teams to provide Water design-build experience and information for business needs 
  • Drive proposal progress to meet scheduled milestones and compliance with the RFP
  • Review, proofread, and edit proposals for clarity and grammar
  • Maintain and update databases and content management 
  • Respond to requests for DB experience and qualifications, internal and external to the Water DB team
  • Develop leave-behinds, brochures, or other materials to support business development
  • Support interview preparations 
  • Serve as Lead when the team is managing multiple proposals, coordinating with regionally-assigned Proposal Coordinators and Graphic artists to oversee proposal development 
  • Engage with DB team through various meetings to increase knowledge of Water DB and ability to stand-in for Design-Build Senior Strategist if necessary 
  • Support overarching Water DB Strategy as requested 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years related experience
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communication, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Confidence to direct and manage large teams with diverse members 
  • Ability to manage short turnaround needs and prioritize competing deadlines
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment and working with multiple deadlines 
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and InDesign required 
  • Written communications including persuasive writing, proofreading, and editing 
  • Critical thinking and creative problem solving 
  • Proactive working style
  • Organizational and administrative skills, and attention to detail 
  • Willingness to step in where needed to support DB team success 
  • Ability to work as a team to manage the overall DB sales and pursuits workload  
Work Environment/Physical Demands

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
