Position Information
Job Title Marketing and Communications Specialist Position Summary
The Marketing Communication Specialist contributes to the success of the Marketing and Communications department by contributing to and implementing email campaigns; writing for the university website, blogs and news content; and generally providing writing and support to the Marketing and Communications department. 
The Marketing Communication Specialist supports a targeted web SEO/GEO strategy and helps produce content accordingly; ensures that email communications and web content are optimized for key conversions and follow rules of grammar, AP Style, visual design and quality assurance. 
Supervised by Assistant Director of Marketing & Content Development
After 180 days of successful employment, this position is potentially a hybrid position (three days/week in office). Schedule established by supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
SEO/GEO Copy Writer
  • Writes and publishes web copy that implements key word optimization for txwes.edu.
  • With supervisor and Director, Digital Media, research potential blog topics that align with the university's SEO strategy, then writes agreed-upon blog posts for txwes.edu blog.
  • Helps manage the review, editing, and approval of blog posts written by agency partners. 
  • With supervisor and Director, Digital Media, maintains and implements both on-page and off-page SEO efforts.
  • Monitors, edits and corrects site content for accuracy, editorial style guidelines (including AP Style) and rules of grammar.
Marketing Email Copy Writer
  • Assist the Senior Marketing Manager to write and implement strategic marketing emails in the Slate CRM, ensuring mobile-friendly templates.
  • Ensures that the needed web content is in place to support marketing emails.
  • Understands the admission funnel of each program, including graduate and undergraduate programs, to optimize communication for the target audience.
Support Marketing & Communications Projects
  • Support marketing and communications team projects such as: website updates, creative brainstorms, survey creations, copy writing, media communications, etc. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Supports creative copy writing efforts of the office of Marketing and Communications including: website content, commercials, email, magazine articles, press releases and digital marketing copy that focus on key conversions and enforces brand identity. 
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major course work in marketing or a related field.
Experience
  • Approximately 1 to 2 years of experience with content management systems (CMS) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
  • Familiarity with the development of effective SEO strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), and email marketing email best practices. 
  • Familiarity with Google Keyword Planner.
  • Experience with copywriting for digital platforms and editing for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy, including AP style. 
  • Written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Working under tight deadlines and bringing strong attention to detail. 
  • Professional copy editing and proofreading.
  • Experience proofreading for website branding standards (fonts, spacing, padding. etc.). 
  • Experience in managing a workload including multiple projects and production schedules required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of SEO fundamentals
  • Digital copywriting ability
  • Ability to write long-form copy for blog posts and website news articles.
  • Understanding of CMS, website technology, and email marketing platforms
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.
