Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 (based on experience)

About AER Manufacturing

AER Manufacturing is a specialized transmission remanufacturer serving the automotive aftermarket and fleet industries. We specialize in General Motors transmissions—including the GM 10L80, 10L90, 6L80, and 6L90—taking cores from the field, performing complete teardown and inspection, remanufacturing components to OEM specifications, and assembling and validating finished transmissions. Our operations require precision, attention to detail, technical knowledge, and a commitment to quality at every step.

Role Overview

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Production Team Lead will oversee day-to-day operations of their assigned production area(s) and lead a team of remanufacturing technicians and assemblers. You will coordinate work assignments, manage inventory of transmission cores and components, ensure adherence to work instructions and quality standards, train team members on procedures and safety protocols, and maintain accountability for production output and quality metrics. The ideal candidate will have hands-on transmission experience, understand GM transmission mechanics and assembly procedures, and possess strong leadership and communication skills.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will work directly with your team on the production floor, perform quality checks, troubleshoot process issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of transmission technicians and assemblers; coach on safety, quality, and productivity standards; conduct regular feedback and performance discussions

Assign daily work tasks and priorities to team members; track progress and adjust schedules to meet production targets and quality objectives

Ensure standardized work is followed across all production activities (teardown, inspection, cleaning, assembly, testing, final inspection, packaging)

Enforce company policies, safety protocols, and quality procedures; conduct Behavior-Based Safety observations, identify unsafe practices, and perform toolbox talks and safety briefings

Manage time and attendance records, monitor staffing levels, and ensure adequate crew coverage to meet daily work requirements

Maintain inventory of transmission cores, components, and work-in-process materials; coordinate receipt and staging of incoming cores; manage parts allocation

Perform quality inspections and audits; identify defects, rework requirements, and non-conforming units; escalate issues to quality and engineering as needed

Provide input for performance appraisals, training assessments, and employee development planning

Coordinate with maintenance, test engineering, and quality departments to resolve equipment issues and ensure production flow is not disrupted

Train team members on work instructions, assembly procedures, safety protocols, and transmission-specific knowledge; ensure all team members understand GM transmission families and component functionality

Problem-solve and troubleshooting process and equipment issues; work with engineering and quality to implement corrective actions and process improvements

Create and communicate daily production schedules in partnership with the Supervisor; adjust schedules as needed to meet weekly production plans from operations/supply chain

Track and report production metrics (units completed, quality defects, rework, downtime) to the Supervisor; identify trends and recommend improvements

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment; ensure compliance with 5S and housekeeping standards

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

5+ years of manufacturing experience, with at least 3 years in transmission remanufacturing, assembly, or related powertrain operations

Hands-on experience with General Motors transmissions (10L80, 10L90, 6L80, 6L90, or similar), including teardown, inspection, assembly, and testing

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions

Demonstrated leadership skills: ability to lead by example, create accountability, motivate others, and resolve conflicts

Strong team-building and people management skills; proven ability to train and develop employees

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish bilingual strongly preferred

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted and stand for extended periods; physical ability to work in a manufacturing environment

Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and requests

Problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to identify root causes and implement solutions

Commitment to safety and quality; positive attitude and willingness to assume additional responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a leadership or supervisor role within manufacturing

Knowledge of quality standards (ISO 9001, TS 16949) and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)

Experience with inventory management systems or production planning tools

Formal team lead or supervisory training or certification
