Job description

Job Summary
The Network Engineer III is responsible for designing, configuring, and troubleshooting the data, video, and voice network. This role must provide complex, high-level technical support for ISP and network management applications; and carry out novel and/or complex assignments requiring the development of new and/or improved techniques and procedures. The Network Engineer III must also demonstrate the ability to lead small teams and projects and use good judgment to ensure successful outcomes for critical projects and major products.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and work on projects with technical staff in the implementation, installation, configuration, and technical support of network architecture and communicate with stakeholders as needed
  • Lead and mentor inter-departmental teams to ensure successful project completion
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including diagrams, standard operating procedures, and work instructions- including analyzing current and projected workloads as a basis for long-range capacity planning
  • Sustain carrier class consistency, predictability, and stability of all network devices and services supported by EPB
  • Be part of the team that designs, implements, and manages EPB's residential and commercial broadband services
  • Direct and perform all necessary audits and maintenance activity to ensure service levels are sustained, and systems are optimized and not compromised
  • Perform after-hours support duties to sustain networking systems and service levels - 24/7/365
  • Assist or take on projects for other engineers in Telecom, Systems, Video, etc
  • Effectively communicate and present technical information to other technical team members and employees in other departments who may not have knowledge of networking technical terminology
  • Develop and test new products, troubleshoot complex system issues, interpret work orders to program various systems, and resolve issues escalated to them from Tech Support, Field Services, and/or Network Operations

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Masters Degree in a related technical field is preferred, and/or 6-10 years of experience with Service Provider networks
  • Industry certifications (Network+, NRS-2, JNCIA, JNCIP) related to specific technical areas are preferred
  • Proficiency with Nokia, Ciena, Juniper, PON, Telecom, and Video services
  • Advanced skills in security implementation around various compliance regulations and risk management
  • Advanced routing, switching, firewalls, and protocols skills
  • Complex network issues resolution skills
  • Expert-level networking, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills

Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with a critical degree of accuracy used to manage complex systems
  • A self-starter, able to work assigned tasks with minimal direction, and be able to think independently
  • Ability to critically assess the results of tasks and directed checks to ensure successful outcomes

Physical Demands - Additional Information
  • Fast-paced and heavy workload to be expected and must continually meet deadlines
  • Will require sitting, typing, communicating, walking, and long hours
  • After-hours and weekends will be needed for emergencies; maintenance activities and on-call will also be needed
