POSITION SUMMARY

McCarthy Holdings, Inc. is seeking a skilled and motivated Network Engineer II to join the IT Network Team. As a Network Engineer II, this individual plays a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of McCarthy’s IT infrastructure, including the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of business-critical network systems that support daily operations.

This role requires a broad knowledge of networking principles, practices, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and planning skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively on day-to-day operations and more complex issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead or independently execute network startup activities for new construction sites and branch offices, including discussing and planning technology requirements with Regional IT Managers, Project Managers and business stakeholders.
  • Install, configure, support, and optimize network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points for new and existing jobsites and offices across LAN, WAN, and WLAN environments, primarily within Cisco Meraki environments.
  • Coordinate the installation and configuration of services from Internet Service Providers at jobsites and offices across the country.
  • Support technology planning for new branch offices, construction trailers, and joint venture environments. Travel as needed to install and maintain these deployments.
  • Provide Level 2/3 support and advanced troubleshooting for network issues. Adhere to company policy for SLA and TTR while maintaining effective communication with support teams to promote efficient issue resolution, strong troubleshooting practices, and timely escalation when needed.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance windows and outage response as needed.
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and successful implementation of network infrastructure changes.
  • Perform routine and scheduled system maintenance activities, including software and firmware updates, patch management, and vulnerability remediation for systems managed by the Network Team.
  • Install and configure security platforms that protect wired and wireless networks, including Network Access Control (NAC), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and VPN services.
  • Monitor network and system performance to ensure availability, reliability, high-quality service, and proactive identification of issues affecting uptime.
  • Work with vendors and service providers to support network, VoIP, and security equipment and software.
  • Lead, coordinate or execute network-related IT projects, including helping manage scope, timelines, vendor coordination, documentation, resource planning, and communication with business and IT stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
  • Track project milestones, risks, and dependencies for network-related initiatives.
  • Independently evaluate and recommend network configurations, hardware, and software products, that improve performance, security, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Support standards for network documentation, lifecycle planning, and operational readiness.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides in all areas of responsibility to ensure accountability and knowledge sharing
  • Maintain a strong understanding of network hardware inventory activities, including check-in, cleaning, testing, organization, RMA handling, recycling, and maintenance of deployment-ready network kits and related logistics.
  • Provide general support for AV and conference room technologies, including platforms such as Polycom, Crestron, and Teams Meeting Rooms.
  • Provide basic administration of Microsoft 365 collaboration services and licensing related to Teams Admin Center, Teams Meeting Rooms, Teams Voice, and associated user or group management.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by evaluating current network operations, identifying opportunities to improve performance and supportability, and helping implement more effective solutions and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Network Administrator, Network Engineer, or in a similar role. 
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostics, and network analytics tools.
  • Broad knowledge of networking principles, practices, procedures, and enterprise support methods, with the ability to work with increasing independence on moderately complex assignments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise network environments in both on-premises and cloud environments, including Windows and Linux servers and endpoints.
  • Experience deploying branch office networks using Cisco Meraki firewalls, wireless solutions, and stacked switching solutions.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience coordinating or supporting network-related IT projects, including budgeting, scheduling, stakeholder communication, vendor coordination, documentation, and execution tracking.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong desire to provide exceptional customer service and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement.

Additional Experience and Skills that are not required but would be beneficial:

  • Strong expertise with Cisco Meraki full stack in an enterprise environment (Firewall, Switching, Wireless, and Cellular Gateway)
  • Familiarity with web proxy services such as Zscaler.
  • Experience with public cloud networking and/or administering or deploying systems in AWS or Azure
  • Experience with network access control platforms, specifically Forescout or 802.1X-based solutions.
  • Relevant network-related certifications.
  • Experience with scripting, automation tools, or basic PowerShell for administrative tasks.
  • Experience with AI tools such as Glean and/or Claude to streamline operations.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Entra ID, and Okta.
  • Experience with Tenable, Nessus, or similar vulnerability management products.
  • Experience with conference room technologies, including Android or Windows Teams Meeting Room devices, Polycom or Neat. Crestron operations or programming, and enterprise AV capabilities such as displays, microphones, speakers, control panels, and room schedulers.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware ESX or Hyper-V.
